Chapter 139
Hathaway arrived at the restaurant on the top floor of the hotel at 9:40.
$0
Zachary’s flight was scheduled to land at 10, and it would take about twenty minutes to drive from the airport to the hotel. The restaurant stayed open until 2 a.m., so there was plenty of time
She quietly flipped through the menu, and when a few men came over asking for her number, she politely turned them down. As soon as it hit ten, she called over the waiter and ordered a few of the restaurants signature dishes.
Twenty minutes later, when a tired–looking Zachary finally pushed open the door and walked in Hathaway looked up, slowly stood, and a smile tugged at her lips.
Almost everyone in the room couldn’t help but stare at Zachary; after all, he’d kept a beautiful woman waiting for quite a while.
He really is handsome, they thought.
Zachary sat down, still a bit out of breath from rushing over. He looked at Hathaway and asked softly, “Have you been waiting long?”
Hathaway shook her head. “It’s fine. I just got here, too.”
“It’s been a while. You look like you’ve lost some weight,” Zachary said.
He smiled, his eyes tired but gentle, “Sorry for making you wait. I was in a hurry to get here. How have things been for you these past six months?”
“I’m doing fine. Hathaway said, handing him a glass of water. “That long flight must ve been exhausting. Here, have some water.”
Zachary quickly took a sip, then set the glass down and grabbed the menu. “Dinner’s on me tonight. Hathaway, what are you in the mood for?”
“I’ve already ordered a few dishes, but you can take a look” Hathaway replied.
“So, what did you order?” As soon as Zachary asked, Hathaway rose with elegant steps and made her way use settling herself right beside him.
Zachary’s breath caught, his eyes drawn irresistibly to her For a moment, he was completely lost. Shes dazzling that this simple closeness made the air around them seem to shimmer
Hathaway leaned closer, lowering her voice. Tordered these dishes”
Zachary’s cheeks flushed, his gaze fixed on her delicate fingers as they danced acrou te miest. The words blurred before his sym, and he could only reply in a hinky voice. “Thats gresit They’re all my Enorities”

Hathaway gently reminded him. “It’s the two of us. We’ve already ordered enough”
30
“Actually, there’s someone else,” Zachary said, a little embarrassed as he remembered. “I ran into my couto at the airport. He was coming back from a business trip on a late flight, so I invited him to join us.
“He’s in the restroom right now. Hope you don’t mind?”
“No problem.” Hathaway replied, her tone even. “Since you’re staying at his place, it’s only fair”
As she spoke, Hathaway reached for her bag, about to take out the contract, but then the waiter started bringing out the dishes.
She quietly let go of her bag, deciding to wait; she’d already waited this long, so a little longer wouldn’t hurt.
Just then, Zachary suddenly called out and waved toward the door. Jeremiah, over here.
Hathaway looked up at the sound, and there he was, a tall, imposing man in a perfectly tailored dark sit, with a trace of travel–worn chill clinging to him.
His gaze was intense, his aura icy and authoritative. It was Jeremiah.
The instant their eyes met, Hathaway’s fingers clenched tight around her bag, her shock plain to see. Her tone was suddenly frosty. “He’s your cousin?”
Zachary looked at her, surprised. “You two know each other?”
“Doesn’t he only have one cousin, Mia?” Hathaway asked.
Zachary hadn’t expected Hathaway to actually know someone from that side of the family, so he didn’t bother hiding it. “Mia is my half–sister.”
Hathaway was stunned. She never would’ve guessed Zachary was Vivian’s stepson. Vivian, so proud and aloof, actually married a divorced man? Hathaway thought, utterly shocked.
Jeremiah took the seat across from Hathaway, his gaze steady and almost chilling. Hathaway felt a sudden prickle at the back of her neck, her scalp tingling with unease.
Feeling flustered, Hathaway grabbed for the water glass in front of her, trying to cover up her nerves with a sip. But Jeremiah reached out and lightly pressed her wrist
The sudden touch caught both Hathaway and Zachary off guard. freezing them in place
Jeremiah spoke in a low, emotionless voice. “Your glass is over here.
He released her wrist and set her glass down in front of her stealy and deliberate
Only then did Hathaway realize, in her fluster, she’d grabbed Zachary’s glass inst of her co
Her cheeks warmed as she quickly glanced at Zachary and mitemured. Sorry”
Zachary’s for fished son, and he replied gently. “Web”

Chapter 139
Their eyes met for a brief moment, and a quiet spark of chemistry lingered in the air between them
Jeremiah saw it all, and the calm on his face disappeared in a heartbeat. His expression turned icy, his eyer darkening with barely concealed anger.
“Let’s eat, Jeremiah said, his voice cold.
Hathaway gripped her fork, but she had no appetite left at all.
Zachary was Vivian’s stepson, and he and Jeremiah were a real family now.
There was absolutely no way she’d ever let him join the R&D team.
As for that ridiculous crush she’d had on him before, and the crazy idea of trying to win him over as her boyfriend, were never going to happen now.
Hathaway’s heart was in knots, and she could feel Jeremiah’s icy, probing gaze locked onto her, like he was trying to figure out how she knew Zachary, and why they seemed so familiar.
He must be wondering how I know Zachary, and why we’re acting so close, she thought.
Zachary, totally clueless, peeled a salt–and–pepper shrimp and slipped it onto her plate. “Eat up.”
Hathaway stared at the food in her bowl, not moving her fork at all.
Zachary quickly noticed something was off and asked, “Did you bring the contract?”
At his words, Hathaway instinctively reached for her bag, feeling the contract inside. But the moment she met Jeremiah’s cold eyes, she hesitated, her resolve faltering.
Hathaway stood up. “I need to use the restroom.”
She hurried downstairs, and as soon as she reached the lobby, she called Zachary. “Zachary, I’m leaving Tr sorry, but I can’t let you join Whitmore Group.
