Chapter 145
Chapter 145
The next morning, as Avery was about to head out, Sylvia called out to him from behind.
“Hold on,” Sylvia said, stepping forward and opening her palm to reveal a gentle, soothing string of prayer beads. “Hathaway gave me these. Whenever I wear them, it always calms me down. Why don’t you wear them?”
Avery raised an eyebrow, his tone flat. “No need.”
Even so, he went along and lifted his right hand.
Sylvia carefully slipped the beads onto his wrist. The beads felt cool at first, but soothing against his skin. Tve been getting this twitch in my eyelid lately, and I feel unsettled. Maybe wearing it will bring you some luck
At that, Avery’s expression darkened. The first thing that came to mind was his pregnant wife at home, and his voice unconsciously grew more concerned. “Mom, could you keep a closer eye on Celeste?
“If it gets too much, I can always hire a few more housekeepers.”
“Too many people make things more complicated.” Sylvia said, waving her hand. “How about this? Let’s hire a maternity nurse to look after her now, and once the baby’s born, we’ll get two nannies. That should be safer
“Alright, I’ll go with whatever you say,” Avery replied.
After making the arrangements, Avery headed for the car door, but Sylvia called out again from behind. “With me, Mary, and Benson here, you can focus on your work outside. Don’t worry about us.”
Avery glanced back. Sylvia was standing under the porch, fussing over him more than usual. Something stirred in his chest. He nodded, then bent down and got into the car.
He was heading to the factory today.
Hathaway was already on her way to the office, so their paths didn’t cross this morning.
Hathaway spent the whole morning busy at the office. By lunchtime, she was sitting by the window in the cafeteria, having lunch with Aurelia.
Just then, her phone buzzed. It was a photo from Zachary; his dish looked so fresh and delicious, obviately made with a lot of care.
Hathaway: [Not working today?]
Zachary: [I am working. Took this yesterday when I cooked.]
Hathaway: I like cooking too
Zachary: [Let’s have a rook–off sometime.)

Chapter 145
Zachary: [Why wait? How about after work today?]
Hathaway felt a spark of interest.
Zachary and Vivian were at odds. There was a hint of rivalry between them. Does that mean I can try getting closer to Zachary?‘ she thought.
She was about to take the first step, but then she remembered Jeremiah. He and Zachary were pretty tight
Those worries she’d managed to suppress came flooding back.
She shook off the idea and started typing a polite reply. [Can’t make it today, got some things to take care of Maybe next time.
As she was about to hit send, Aurelia’s hand suddenly blocked her phone screen.
“Ms. Whitmore, you’re frowning so hard you could kill a fly with those brows. If you really don’t want to go, don’t send it, Aurelia said.
Without waiting for her response, Aurelia snatched the phone and quickly typed: [Sure!]
Then she handed the phone back.
Hathaway watched as Zachary sent over a cheerful emoji. She turned to Aurelia, surprised, and asked, “Wait are you seeing someone?”
“I’m about to get married,” Aurelia replied.
“Seriously? Congrats,” Hathaway said.
“I’ve been at Whitmore Group for five years now. I started out as a clerk, but Mr. Whitmore saw how detail- oriented I was and promoted me to secretary,” Aurelia explained.
Maybe spending so much time with Hathaway had made her a lot more confident lately.
They chatted for a bit before heading back to work.
After work, Hathaway and Zachary met up
p at the same supermarket.
They walked side by side through the aisles, pushing a cart together. They looked so comfortable together, you’d think they were another couple out shopping
Zachary picked out some beautifully marbled steaks, juicy chicken wings, and a few fresh veggies. The way he knew exactly what to look for in the produce made it obvious he was a real pin in the kitchen,
The warm white lights cast a gentle glow on his profile, highlighting his sharp yet sofi features.
People passing by couldn’t help but glance at them, and in their woods, they all conned this stunning pair had to be totally smitten with eachother.
They chatted and langthed as the cur palled in the upscale complex anil parked right at the private entrance

When they stepped inside, they were greeted by a spacious, airy apartment.
RE
Zachary, like he’d done a hundred times, carried the shopping bags straight into the open kitchen. Tonight, I’m cooking. Relax and let me treat you to my cooking.
Hathaway followed behind, watching as he rolled up his sleeves, revealing his well-defined forearms. “Hey, I thought this was supposed to be a cook–off. No way I’m sitting on the sidelines.”
“Alright, let’s do it together, Zachary said with a grin.
Zachary was cleaning and prepping the grouper, while Hathaway, a few feet away, made sure the steaks were perfectly dry
Zachary heated up the skillet, and as the butter started to foam up, the steak hit the pan with a satisfying sizzle.
He flipped the steak like a pro, sprinkled on some salt, and every so often turned to chat with her. The cozy kitchen vibe matched the gentle way he spoke to her.
As the food was almost ready, Hathaway’s phone suddenly rang, the ringtone sharp and urgent.
She answered, and after a few words, her face went ghostly pale. Her grip on the phone tightened so hard her knuckles turned white.
