Chapter 150
Meanwhile, as Hathaway was about to get in her car and leave, she ran into a few of her old high school
classmates.
“Hathaway” one of them called out.
Among them was Yvonne Bergen, the niece of the owner of the yacht involved in that incident
They’d been rivals since high school, and now, meeting again, the hostility in their eyes was sharper than before.
“Hathaway, it’s been three years, and my uncle is still locked up,” Yvonne said.
Hathaway shot back, “Why are you telling me?”
“Go talk to Jeremiah! Tell him to let my uncle go!” Yvonne snapped.
Hathaway shrugged. “He’s not any closer to me than he is to you.
Yvonne snapped. “It’s all because of you! You let that woman hook up with Jeremiah!”
Back in high school, they fought openly and secretly over Jeremiah, turning the class upside down, but neither of them got him.
When they thought they could finally talk marriage after college, Jessica, that Riverand beauty, showed up and snatched Jeremiah before anyone else had a chance.
Yvonne suddenly burst out laughing. “Jessica? You brought her in yourself. She’s your mom’s old classmate’s daughter! Wow, Hathaway, you really outdid yourself! If you hadn’t been so naive”
Her friend quickly tugged at her sleeve, signaling her to keep her voice down. She didn’t want Yvonne talking smack about Jeremiah’s girlfriend. If Jeremiah heard, they’d be toast.
Yvonne suddenly remembered she still had to rush over to Jeremiah and plead for her uncle, so she didn’t bother saying anything else.
“Hathaway! You brought this on yourself!” Yvonne snapped, then stormed off in a huff
Her friend lingered for a moment, her eyes full of mixed feelings as she looked at Hathaway. She said quietly, Honestly, you’re pitiful.”
With that, she turned and walked away, 100.
Hathaway sat alone in her car, the silence inside almost suffocating She leaned back against the wear thinking
If only I’d time–traveled one day earlier. If that were the case I would never have spool jeremials
The next morning, slight steamed into the dining room

Chapter 150
Sylvia set down her teacup and asked Hathaway, who was still eating her soup. It’s your birthday today. Do you want to invite Zachary over for dinner?”
Hathaway paused with her spoon in midair, then shook her head. “He’s Vivian’s stepson
Sylvia froze, instinctively glancing at Avery. Their eyes met, both of them looking a little stunned
Without another word, Sylvia dragged herself to her feet and headed back to her room.
Avery had been buried in work all morning, and it was almost ten by the time he figured he could spare a
moment
“He headed over to the auction house, picked out an exquisite piece of jewelry for Hathaway’s birthday, and while he was at it, he also bid on a painting, telling the staff to deliver it straight to Celeste’s parents‘ house
That evening, the whole family was home to celebrate Hathaway’s birthday.
Celeste was almost seven months pregnant, so she had to stay home and couldn’t join the gathering
Leo was still at odds with Evelyn, so he said he’d make it up to Hathaway next time and sent her some money for now.
So, Hathaway’s birthday wasn’t exactly lively this year.
Still, Hathaway was in good spirits. She grinned at Celeste’s belly and joked, “Next year, I’ll have a little nephew or niece to celebrate with me! It’ll be a real party then.”
She blew out the candles and made a wish.
As they dug into the cake, Avery snapped a few photos of her.
She wasn’t planning to work overtime tonight.
As she lay down to sleep, her phone kept blowing up with calls from numbers she didn’t recognize.
She didn’t bother picking up, switched her phone off, and went to bed.
Avery almost never posted on Instagram, but tonight, he made an exception.
Jeremiah saw it.
It was a photo of Hathaway eating cake.
He suddenly remembered that three years ago, on this very day, she’d kept asking hins to celebrate her birthday with he
But on her birthday, he didn’t show up, and she didn’t complain about it afterward
After that, she pretty misch stopped closing after fun!

Maybe it was because of her birthday that she started giving him the cold shoulder

Thinking of that, Jeremiah didn’t hesitate. He grabbed his car keys and headed straight over to the Whitmore residence.
He kept trying to get through to Hathaway on the way, but her phone wouldn’t connect. When he finally pulled up outside Whitmore Villa, he had no choice but to call Avery instead.
Avery was honestly surprised to get a call from Jeremiah.
But when Jeremiah said he was looking for Hathaway, that really threw Avery for a loop.
Avery walked into Hathaway’s room and woke her up as she was drifting off. “Jeremiah’s on the phone,” he told her.
Half–asleep, Hathaway took the phone. The second she heard Jeremiah’s voice, most of her drowsiness vanished. When she looked up and saw the strange expression on Avery’s face, her heart did a little flip.
She glanced down at the screen, and it finally hit her. Jeremiah had actually called Avery to reach her
I’m heading out for a bit,” Hathaway said, grabbing a jacket and throwing it on.
Avery took his phone back, looking like he’d seen a ghost. “What does he want with you?”
“I have no idea,” Hathaway replied.
Hathaway zipped up her jacket and hurried out the door, thinking she’d have a quick chat and be back in no
time.
But as soon as she got close, Jeremiah pulled her into the car without giving her a chance to speak, then drove straight away from the Whitmore residence.
When they pulled up outside the upscale restaurant, Hathaway glanced down at her fuzzy slippers and white nightgown, suddenly realizing how out of place she looked.
Before Hathaway could protest, Jeremiah grabbed her hand and practically dragged her inside
The restaurant was completely reserved for them, with soft lighting, a violin playing gently in the background, and a jeweler already waiting nearby.
