The Billionaire Regretted Losing His Invisible Wife novel Chapter 272

Chapter 272 More than hungry

**Mia’s POV**

“Mia!” Sarah’s mom waved me over. “Thank God you’re here. I was starting to think I was the only parent crazy enough to bring enough supplies.”

I laughed, setting my bag down next to hers. “Great minds think alike. What did you bring?”

“Everything,” she said.

“Okay, families!” Mrs. Rodriguez called out, clapping her hands to get everyone’s attention. “Let’s gather in a circle so we can start our nature adventure!”

The children immediately ran toward her, forming a somewhat chaotic circle on the grass. Parents followed more slowly, some looking enthusiastic, others checking their watches.

“Today we’re going to explore Central Park and see what kinds of wildlife we can find,” Mrs. Rodriguez announced. “Who can tell me what kind of animals might live in the park?”

“Squirrels!” shouted about ten children at once.

“Birds!” added Emma.

“Dogs!” said one boy.

“Those are pets, not wildlife,” Ethan corrected seriously.

“Actually,” Mrs. Rodriguez said with a smile, “dogs are animals too, even if they’re domestic. What about wild animals?”

“Raccoons!” Alexander announced proudly, remembering Tommy Chen’s story.

“That’s right! There are raccoons in Central Park. What else?”

I noticed a late arrival walking toward our group.

An older woman, maybe in her sixties. Walking beside her, looking small and uncertain, was Madison.

Madison herself looked smaller than usual, if that was possible. She was wearing a pristine white dress with matching shoes – completely impractical for a nature hike.

“Mrs. Rodriguez,” the older woman approached our teacher with the confidence of someone accustomed to immediate attention.” I’ll be supervising Madison today.”

“Madison, you’ll stay close to me,” the lady said. “We don’t want any incidents today.”

I reminded myself that family dynamics weren’t my business.

“Alright, everyone!” Mrs. Rodriguez called out again. “Let’s start our nature walk! We’ll head toward the Ramble, where we’re most likely to see interesting wildlife.”

The group began moving. I kept Alexander and Ethan close, not trusting them not to wander off in pursuit of the first interesting rock or stick they encountered.

“Mama, look!” Alexander grabbed my arm, pointing toward a cluster of bushes. “I think I saw a bird!”

“Where?” Ethan asked, immediately focusing his attention in the same direction.

“There! The red one!”

We paused to observe what was indeed a cardinal perched in a nearby tree.

“Cardinals are year-round residents of Central Park,” Mrs. Rodriguez explained. “Unlike some birds that migrate, they stay here through all the seasons.”

“Why don’t they fly somewhere warmer?” asked Emma.

“Because they’ve adapted to city life,” Mrs. Rodriguez replied. “They’ve learned to find food and shelter here, so they don’t need to migrate.”

“Like us!” Alexander announced.

“That’s right. You’re both city birds and New Yorkers.”

I noticed Madison had fallen even further behind. The lady kept her firmly in place, maintaining their distance

from the other families.

“Let’s take a short break here. This is actually a perfect spot to look for different types of trees.” Mrs. Rodriguez

said.

The children immediately scattered in different directions, examining bark and looking for interesting leaves.

“Madison, would you like to look for leaves with the other children?” Mrs. Rodriguez asked gently, approaching the girl.

“Madison needs to be careful about what she touches,” the lady replied.

An hour later, we circled back to the picnic area for lunch.

The twins were absolutely thrilled with their adventure. They’d collected interesting rocks, found a feather, and taken approximately fifty photos with my phone of things that looked exactly the same to me.

All the other children were eating heartily, and Madison seemed out of place.

The contrast was striking.

And when the children started eating, Madison had only a glass of water and some fruit in front of her.

It’s really hard not to notice.

Especially, Alexander and Ethan were devouring the sandwiches I’d packed, along with apple slices, cheese crackers.

Madison sat still on a small blanket. In front of her was a small water bottle.

I saw Madison swallowing her saliva.

The little girl was clearly hungry, watching the other children eat. Her small portions of apple were gone within
