There were many times Lucy imagined seeing Landon again.
Each version was different, but he’d just stand there and stare at her. He would look at her coldly with his arm around Yvonne’s shoulders. He would then turn around and leave, making Lucy chase after them.
In another dream, Lucy would watch him kneel before her, begging her to forgive him.
These dreams, however, did not give her any relief or satisfaction. She’d wake up, sweating and gasping for air. Then, she would drown herself in tears.
But dreams should be different from reality, right?
And so, Lucy thought it would make her feel better if she could see Landon and everyone else miserable like she was in the past.
Yet, she didn’t know what she felt now that she saw Landon like this.
"Lucy..."
Lucy looked away.
She shouldn’t get weak now. Her resolve shouldn’t break just because he’s hurting. What if it’s just an act? Landon had been great in doing that. He had been an expert in pretending he loved her in front of everyone, right?
Even she ended up believing all his sweet words and affectionate actions.
And where did that bring her? She told herself to take another step and leave him there. She shouldn’t concern herself with him anymore.
Turning her back to him, Lucy started to walk away. She headed in the opposite direction and forced herself not to glance back even when she could still hear her name being called by him.
"Lucy... please, come back to me."
Lucy clenched her fists tightly. Her tears gathered up her eyes.
She can no longer go back to him. What they had before was all in the past now.
Her cheeks felt wet as tears slowly fell from her eyes. She wiped them away, but it continued to fall despite trying to force herself not to cry.
"What the hell?!"
The elevator opened and two passengers came out of it. They stumbled as they walked out, failing to see Landon, who was lying on the ground.
"Why the hell are you lying over here?"
"Is he alive?"
"What? He’s dead?!"
"Should we call the security?"
The passengers inside the elevator started to panic. They quickly jumped to conclusions without checking on Landon.
At this rate, Landon would be on the news soon, reported as a dead body found outside an elevator in a 5-star hotel.
That is if Lucy doesn’t do anything.
As the situation worsened, one passenger mentioned doing a live stream. Lucy stopped in her tracks. She turned and headed towards them.
Stopping in her heels, Lucy said with gritted teeth, "Oh, for God’s sake, he’s not dead. Just drunk, stupid, and you’re make things even worse, people. Now, move."
The passengers hesitated, looked at each other, but backed away. She crouched down beside Landon, glared at him, and smacked him on the arm.
"Ugh!"
Lucy stilled. She didn’t wake him up, did she?
Fortunately, Landon didn’t open his eyes and succumbed deeply into slumber, curling his form into a fetal position.
She let out an exasperated sigh before grabbing his arm and yanking him up. The moment she touched him, however, Lucy felt hesitant.
Despite him wearing a coat over his shirt, the heat of his skin still burned her. Lucy could only steel herself and keep her hand under his arms, pulling him from in front of the elevator.
Someone from the people inside the elevator hesitated before asking, "Are you sure he’s okay?"
Lucy shot them a sharp look. "Yes, he’s fine. I suggest you all go on your own way."
Finally, the crowd disappeared when the elevator finally closed.
Dragging Landon down the hallway was not graceful, nor was it easy. Lucy wondered why she was making herself like this? Landon didn’t need her help, and he didn’t deserve it, either.
Yet, here she was, hauling his dead weight in front of the room she was previously in.
Letting one hand free, Lucy knocked, once, twice, before taking a deep breath.
It took a few seconds before the door swung open, and Percy leaned against the frame, eyeing her with a delighted smirk.
