Kevin glanced at Ethan before nudging his shoulder.
"You came because of the gossip too?"
"Yeah." Ethan chuckled, rubbed the back of his neck, and stared at Scott before continuing, "How am I supposed to focus on work after hearing what you said yesterday? I couldn’t stop thinking about the gossip about Zachary!"
Kevin immediately pointed at Ethan. "Exactly! Finally, someone understands me."
"I even considered calling Zach directly," Ethan admitted. "Then I remembered Scott specifically told us to wait."
Kevin looked at Scott with exaggerated disappointment. "And look where waiting got us."
Scott pinched the bridge of his nose. "Gentlemen! Can you both stop being so dramatic?"
Kevin ignored him completely. "I’ve had meetings since eight this morning," he complained. "Do you know how difficult it is to negotiate contracts while wondering what earth-shattering secret your best friend is hiding?"
Ethan couldn’t help but laugh. "And I spent half my drive here making wild guesses."
"What guesses?" Kevin asked curiously.
"I thought Zach secretly bought another company."
Kevin shook his head. "No. I guess it’s bigger than that."
"I also considered that he might be returning to his first love, Jess!" Ethan said playfully.
Kevin’s expression slowly turned stiff. "Don’t conclude that or you might be in trouble, man!"
Ethan nodded in agreement, then he asked, "What about you?"
"I thought he was secretly engaged. Not with Jess, of course! Or he has another baby." Kevin nodded proudly, pleased with his guess.
Scott couldn’t hold back his laughter anymore. "You two really have too much imagination."
Kevin pointed directly at him. "And whose fault is that?"
Scott opened his mouth to answer before realizing he had no defense. He had started this entire mess with one careless comment, and now both of his friends had practically abandoned work just to satisfy their curiosity. For successful CEOs, they certainly didn’t act like responsible adults.
When he looked at them again, Kevin and Ethan were staring at him with identical expressions. Their eyes were filled with expectation, making them look more like impatient children than influential businessmen.
Scott sighed dramatically. "Fine! But I’m only saying this once."
Both men straightened immediately. Neither of them interrupted.
"And after I tell you," Scott continued firmly, "you’re not asking any questions. No endless discussion. No interrogation. You hear the secret, then you both leave because I actually have work to do."
As if to emphasize his point, he glanced at the expensive watch around his wrist before looking back at them.
Kevin clicked his tongue. "You’ve already wasted five precious minutes giving speeches instead of telling us."
"For once," Ethan said with a grin, "I completely agree with him."
