The Billionaire's Insignificant Wife novel Chapter 157

A Glimmer of Hope

At the Blackwood family mansion, Alina sat in a chair near the window, her hand moving slowly to touch her stomach.

Her fingers traced the flat, thin surface-no visual sign of the life growing inside. But Dr. Ross had confirmed it. Blood test. Urine test. All positive.

She was pregnant.

Two weeks.

Alina stared at the closed curtains with empty eyes. Her mind spun in the same circles as the past few days- between confusion, fear, and something resembling profound sadness.

She should be happy.

Pregnancy was a blessing-something celebrated with smiles and hope.

But all Alina felt was a terrible emptiness.

Once-before all this-Alina had imagined having a child with Daniel.

That was when their contract marriage still felt tolerable. When Daniel treated her with minimal respect. When Alina could still smile and think that maybe they could build something more than just a business arrangement.

She had once imagined what it would be like to carry Daniel’s child. Imagined how they would become parents together. Imagined Junior having a sibling he would love.

But that was before.

Before the accident that struck Junior.

Before the isolation.

Before Clarissa’s return.

Now, this pregnancy didn’t feel like a blessing to Alina. It felt like a chain binding her to the man who had destroyed her. A chain that made escape impossible. A chain that would last forever.

“Why?” Alina whispered in a hoarse, broken voice. “Why did God give me this now?”

Tears began to fall down her cheeks, but Alina didn’t wipe them away. She just let them fall-one by one- wetting the cream dress Mrs. Helen had put on her that morning.

Her eyes fell on her left wrist, still wrapped in thin bandages.

The scars from her suicide attempt a few days ago.

Shallow wounds because Mrs. Helen had arrived just in time.

But the intent behind those wounds was crystal clear.

Alina had wanted to die.

And right now, she still wanted to die.

Every day waking up in this mansion-in a room that felt like a prison-with Daniel controlling every aspect of her life was worse than death.

At least death would bring peace. End the pain. Free Alina from Daniel.

But now…

Alina’s hand pressed gently against her stomach.

Now there was something growing inside.

Something small. Not yet truly alive in the full sense. Just a cluster of dividing cells. No heartbeat yet. No consciousness yet.

But still-it was life.

Innocent life.

Life that hadn’t asked to be created in this terrible situation.

“Forgive me,” Alina whispered while stroking her stomach with very gentle movements. “Forgive me that you have to have me as a mother. Forgive me that I can’t protect you from him. Forgive me for bringing you into a world like this.”

Alina’s tears flowed harder now.

She bent forward, her body trembling-sobs breaking from her chest despite her attempts to hold them back.

Alina hated Daniel.

Hated him with every fiber of her being.

She hated everything Daniel had done-the coercion, the isolation, the control, the violence.

But this baby…

This baby was innocent.

This baby hadn’t chosen to be created from nights filled with violence and tears.

And Alina-even though she wanted to die-couldn’t take this baby with her into death.

“What should I do?” Alina whispered brokenly to the empty room. “God, please tell me what to do. How do I survive this? How do I protect this baby when I can’t even protect myself?”

No answer came. Only the sound of her own ragged breathing and the occasional drip from the IV still attached to her arm.

Alina sat like that for several long minutes-crying silently, hand on her stomach, drowning in despair that felt bottomless.
