Junior safe.
But wasn’t allowed to anymore.
Mrs. Helen made a decision.
She couldn’t help Alina right now. But she could document.
She took the teacup carefully, wrapped it in a clean cloth, and hid it in the back of the kitchen pantry where no one would find it.

For later.
When this all came to light.

Daniel’s Mercedes screeched into St. Mary’s emergency entrance fourteen minutes after Clarissa’s call.
He abandoned the car at the curb, not caring about parking, and ran inside.
“Junior Blackwood,” he told the nurse at the desk. “Five years old. Head trauma. Ambulance brought him in.”
“Trauma bay two. Through those doors, take a left.”
Daniel ran.
Found Clarissa in the hallway outside trauma bay two, still in the blood–soaked dress, mascara streaked down her
face.
She looked up when she saw him. Broken. Terrified.
“Daniel-”
He grabbed her shoulders. “What happened? Tell me exactly what happened.”
“I don’t know!” Fresh tears spilled. “I was downstairs with your mother and we heard a noise and when I went to check, he was just–he was on the floor and there was blood and-”
“Was anyone with him?”
“No. He was alone in his room.”
“Where was Alina?”
The question came out before Daniel could stop it. Automatic. Because Alina was always with Junior. Always watching. Always keeping him safe.
Clarissa’s face twisted with something between grief and anger. “I don’t know where Alina was. She wasn’t there. She wasn’t watching him.”
“She’s not allowed to be with him unsupervised anymore. You know that.”
“Exactly!” Clarissa’s voice rose. “She’s not allowed because she’s unstable! Because she destroyed his toy! Because she can’t be trusted!”
“Mr. Blackwood?”
A doctor emerged from trauma bay two. Young. Female. Expression professionally neutral but eyes showing
concern.
“I’m Dr. Emily. I’m treating your son.”
“How is he?”
“He’s stable for now. But he has a significant head injury. We’ve done a CT scan and there’s swelling in the brain. We need to take him to surgery immediately to relieve the pressure.”
The words hit like physical blows.

Surgery. Brain swelling. Pressure.
“Is he going to be okay?” Daniel heard himself ask, voice strange and distant.
Dr. Emily’s pause was too long.
“We’re doing everything we can. But I need to be honest with you- the next twenty–four hours are critical. The fall caused significant trauma. We won’t know the full extent of the damage until after surgery.”
