Breakfast came and went. Plates were cleared, coffee cups emptied, and one by one, the team filtered out of the dining area with the hum of morning chatter trailing behind them.

Maya tried to hide her disappointment behind quiet sips of juice and half-hearted nods at Harper’s attempts to keep the conversation going. It was no use. The hollow ache in her chest only grew heavier with each tick of the clock.

Trina’s voice eventually cut through the quiet lull. “Alright everyone, we’re meeting by the beach tiki bar in twenty. Quick prep and staging before we begin rolling. Let’s go!”

Chairs scraped back. Sandals padded off across tiled floors. Soon, the breakfast area was nearly empty.

Maya stood slowly, slinging her bag over her shoulder. Harper walked beside her, tossing the last of her croissant into her mouth. “Still no sign of your brooding lover boy,” she muttered under her breath.

Maya didn’t answer. She didn’t have the energy to joke.

As they stepped through the lobby doors, the late morning sun spilled over them-warm and blinding. Just ahead, Lee appeared from the path leading outside, moving fast. His strides were clipped and focused, jaw set, brows furrowed. Definitely not someone who had just

rolled out of bed.

His shirt clung slightly to his chest, the collar damp with sweat. Like he’d been running.

“Ms. Maya. Ms. Lin,” he greeted, pausing just a few feet away, breath still catching as he gave them both a polite nod.

Maya’s brows drew together. “Lee? Is everything okay?”

He blinked, slightly caught off guard, then in a blink his expression shifted-too quickly. A small, practiced smile tugged at his lips. “Of course! Sorry, I-uh-I was just in a hurry to get back from the hangar.”

Maya tilted her head, unconvinced.

Harper raised an eyebrow. “Hangar?”
