“She’s been your employee for almost four years now. Tell me-was there ever a time she caused trouble? Ever a time she failed you, the company, or anyone around her? She worked hard, gave what was expected, took her role seriously-when she didn’t even need to lift a finger. She cared, Damien. About her job, her colleagues… about your company. And when I walked into the PR department, lost and terrified, she welcomed me. Made me feel safe.”

Her voice softened, but the steel remained.

“I’m sure she had no idea that moment would lead us here-between you and me. But if she had bad intentions, with who she really is… don’t you think she would’ve acted on them a long time ago?”

“Maya…” Damien began, his voice low, strained. “It’s not what I-”

She cut him off, lifting a hand. Her gaze dropped for a breath, her chest rising and falling, then she looked up again.

“Harper is my friend. My only friend. And if it weren’t for her, I would’ve run already. Hidden from everything I didn’t understand. But she stayed with me. She showed me the truth-about you, about this world, about us. In ways I never could’ve imagined. She made me understand.

Maya stepped closer, her gaze locked on him, unwavering, fierce. “She’s saved me more times than I can count. I trust her. You should too.”
