Chapter 143: A Dangerous Arrangement-3

Clam

“I must admit…” she purred, her tone a velvet drawl, “…you’re a damn good fuck.” She let her gaze flick down his body, then back to his eyes, daring him. “So sure-let’s be friends… with benefits.” Ashcroft’s jaw tightened, but Harper pressed on, her voice low and teasing. “Let’s make some rules: you satisfy my heat, I’ll satisfy yours. No strings attached. But it stays our little secret. After three months-once the engagement is final-we stop. I may be crazy and wild,” she added, her finger trailing lightly down the center of his chest, “but I am faithful.”

Her words hit him like a spark. Ashcroft’s eyes darkened, dangerous and unreadable. Something inside him snapped-part of his mind whispered that it was a damn good deal: no strings attached, just pleasure. But another part recoiled, uneasy. There was a weight in his chest, something unfamiliar and unsettling creeping in, threading through his control.

The air between them grew electric, the torchlight flickering across their faces. Ashcroft stared at her, jaw tight, eyes smoldering with heat and unspoken conflict. Harper, still trapped between his arms, tilted her head, lips curling with mischief, daring him to resist.

The cave seemed to pulse with their heat, lingering in the silence, every heartbeat a reminder of what had just passed-and what was far from over.

The intense moment was disrupted when footsteps echoed from the entrance of the cave. Ashcroft’s men-and Anko-had returned. Their eyes locked for a beat longer before Ashcroft dropped his hands and stepped back. Harper let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding, her chest loosening slightly.

She lowered her gaze for a moment, a bitter smile curling at the corners of her lips-one only she could see, a secret from the world. But when she lifted her head again, it was replaced with her usual bubbly, carefree smile, as if nothing had happened.

By the time the three men reached them, Harper was the first to speak. “You’re back! How was it? All done?”

Anko bowed respectfully. “Yes, it’s finished. We made sure that every trace of him is gone.”

Harper nodded approvingly. “Hmm, good! Well, it’s getting late. You know what to do-clean up this place, make sure not a single trace is left behind. I’ll head back now.”

She stepped forward, then paused suddenly, remembering something. “Oh, and you don’t need to hide anymore; they already know who I am. Meet me at the resort tomorrow morning-we’re heading home.”
