"It was blood type B; there was no mistake. We've double-checked her blood type," the nurse assured, her voice steady and professional.
Bruce's expression darkened instantly, his face contorting with discomfort.
"Something wrong?" the nurse inquired, her brows knitting together in concern.
Snapping back to reality, Bruce plastered on a smile that was all politeness and composure. "Nothing at all. I'll have my daughter come in for a donation some other time."
"Alright then." Satisfied with his response, the nurse left the room, her footsteps echoing down the sterile hospital corridor.
As soon as she was gone, a chilling fury took over Bruce's features.
If his memory served him right, Evelyn was also type O.
Previously, to manipulate Evelyn and keep her emotions under control, he intentionally took her to the hospital for a medical examination, falsely presenting it as a pre-marital checkup. He remembered clearly that she was type O.
How could two parents with type O blood possibly have a daughter with type B?
The only explanation was that Thalassa wasn't his child! She was the product of Evelyn's betrayal – the result of her affair with another man!
Evelyn's words last time weren't out of spite. They were the truth!
She had indeed betrayed him, gone to another man, and bore his child!
Thalassa wasn't his daughter!
The cold fury within Bruce was palpable, his eyes glinting with a dangerous light.
Rushing home, he found the place empty. Lucy was probably out with the ladies at their weekly line dancing in the park.
Seizing the opportunity, Bruce boldly entered his study, reaching for a stack of files prominently displayed on the bookshelf. The files contained the details of his numerous past liaisons.
He opted for the most conspicuous location because, after all, what better place to hide than in plain sight? Lucy had searched through his safe, drawers, and any locked or confidential spaces, dreading that he might be hiding some unspeakable secrets.
But Bruce had always been one step ahead of Lucy. The more conspicuous the place, the less she suspected.
Over the years, Bruce kept those women's files right there on the bookshelf, secretly enclosed in a folder. While the first few pages were innocuous contracts, it was the pages in the middle that held the damning details.
Lucy had never found them.
