Silas let out a heavy sigh. Quinton had committed his fair share of petty crimes over the years, but he hadn't done anything truly unforgivable. At least, that's what Silas told himself.
"You just love taking the blame for everything!" Leo shouted, at a loss for how to reason with his father. Silas was pathologically devoted to Quinton.
People often joked that Quinton was Silas's oldest son, and Leo was just the neglected youngest. Sometimes, Leo wished his dad would just remarry. But what woman would tolerate a husband who treated a deadbeat brother-in-law better than his own child? Marrying Silas would be a nightmare.
Noticing the gray hair at his father's temples, Leo softened slightly. "Dad, since you're retired now, just rest. Once I graduate and start working, I can support you."
Leo was studying at the police academy. Once he graduated, he'd be an officer too. But a rookie's salary wouldn't be enough to support a whole family, and Silas knew that perfectly well.
"I don't need you to support me. I might have retired early, but I still have my pension. After I rest for a bit, I'll find another job. I can't just sit around all day."
More importantly, neither Leo nor Quinton were married yet. How could he just sit around when he still had to provide for them?
Leo immediately knew his father was thinking about Quinton again. His expression hardened. "Dad, he is in his thirties! How long are you going to take care of him? If he had an ounce of decency, he wouldn't have dragged you down with him! If you keep bailing him out, he's just going to get worse!"
