Lost in her despair, she heard someone call her name. The voice sounded exactly like Victor’s…
Adeline managed a lonely, self–mocking smile. She was losing her mind.
No matter how arrogant and unreasonable Marilyn was in public, Victor was deeply in love with her and devoted to her. He had just happily married Marilyn; why would he possibly be here? She truly was delusional, continuing to hope even after telling herself countless times to be realistic.
“Adeline…”
She gently stroked her abdomen, her eyes empty, staring into the distance. The thought that her quiet love would come to nothing, and that her child would be born without a father, made her eyes burn.
Suddenly, she felt the park–a quiet, green place–was suffocating her.
She rose numbly, wanting to find fresh air and crush her unrealistic hopes, when she felt a hand firmly grip hers.
Norman’s madness had left her with deep scars. Assuming she had encountered another pervert, she instinctively tried to pull her hand away.
But her struggle was useless. He only tightened his grip.
She looked up and saw Victor’s handsome, distinguished face–a face so beautiful it seemed unreal.
Her lips parted silently.
It wasn’t a hallucination after all?
But he had happily married Marilyn today. He should be with his wife, showing her affection. Why was he here looking for her?
His palm was wide and strong, and the warmth of his hand was intoxicating. Seeing him made her feel a sudden rush of being wronged.
She wanted to throw herself into his arms and cling to him. But her morals were firm. She would never be a shameless mistress. Even though she still loved him, she suppressed the urge and tried to pull her hand free.

Chapter 682 He Came For Her
:
“Victor, I saw the video. You married Marilyn. Today is your wedding day. Do… do something urgent you need me for?”
“I didn’t marry Marilyn!”

Seeing her stare at him, obviously disbelieving him, he repeated, “Adeline, I didn’t marry Marilyn. I have a lucky charm here, carved with a soaring phoenix. That night, I was set up, and a girl saved me. That charm fell off her. I promised I would take full responsibility for that girl. Lily recognized the charm. She said it belongs to you. Adeline, you were the one who saved me that night, who used your body as the antidote. Why did you leave without a word and hide the truth?”
Adeline was completely stunned. She never expected him to bring up that night, or to know that she was the woman. She had assumed he was already devoted to Marilyn, and that night was unimportant to him.
Everything had happened so fast. She didn’t know how to answer his barrage of questions. She could only say, her face pale, “Marilyn is pregnant. You love her. You…”
“I don’t know if Marilyn is really pregnant, but even if she is, the baby isn’t mine.” Before Adeline could finish, Victor cut her off urgently. “I never touched her. How could she be pregnant with my child?”
“Adeline, there is no one else!”
Adeline stared blankly at Victor. One shocking piece of news after another was hitting her, making her mind reel. She stood motionless, her mouth opening and closing, unable to say a word.
As she stood there, lost, she heard Victor’s voice again, thick with anxiety and urgency. “Adeline, that night, I said I would take responsibility, and you agreed. Why did you leave the next morning without a word? Marilyn made me believe she was the woman who saved me, and she claimed to be pregnant, which is why I felt obligated to marry her. I have never had romantic feelings for her; in fact, I despise her. Adeline, you are the one I love. You are the one I want to take responsibility for!”
He loves me…
Adeline’s beautiful eyes opened wide. The simple sentence was too much. For a moment, she couldn’t process its meaning.
She stared at him foolishly for a long time before she realized what he was saying.
My love for him was never one–sided.
