15 Chapter 15 The Press Conference
At 11:45 AM, Mira stood in the conference room of Patricia Morrison’s law office, staring at her reflection in the mirror.
Professional navy suit. Hair pulled back. Minimal makeup showing the exhaustion in her eyes.
She looked like a woman who’d been through hell.
Which was perfect.
“Are you ready?” Patricia asked, appearing behind her.
“No.” Mira’s voice was steady despite the terror clawing at her chest. “But I’m doing it
anyway.”
“Remember–stick to the facts. Don’t let them provoke you into emotional outbursts. You’re the wronged wife, the devoted mother. They’re the powerful family trying to steal your child.”
Mira nodded, though her hands shook.
Patricia handed her a flash drive. “This has everything. The recording of Kieran and Selene. Photos documenting your injuries from Selene’s slap. Medical records from your traumatic delivery showing Kieran wasn’t present. Text messages between Kieran and Astrid during times he claimed to be working.”
“Where did you get those?”
“Let’s just say you’re not the only person in the Ravencrest organization who’s tired of watching them destroy people.” Patricia’s smile was sharp. “You have allies you don’t
even know about.”
At noon, Mira walked into a room packed with reporters.
Every major supernatural news outlet was represented. Camera flashes exploded as she took her seat at the conference table.
Patricia spoke first. “Thank you all for coming. Mrs. Ravencrest has a statement regarding the recent custody petition filed by Selene Ravencrest, as well as allegations about her personal conduct. Afterward, she’ll take limited questions.”
Mira pulled the microphone closer, her heart hammering so hard she could barely

breathe.
“My name is Mira Whitmore–Ravencrest,” she began, her voice surprisingly steady. “Five years ago, I married Alpha Kieran Ravencrest. I thought I was marrying my soulmate, my mate, the father of my future children.”
She paused, looking directly into the cameras.
“I was wrong.”
The room went silent.
“For the past three years, my husband has been conducting an open affair with Astrid Sinclair. Everyone in Oakwood’s supernatural community knows about it. Everyone except, apparently, me–because I was too busy trying to be the perfect wife and mother to see what was happening right in front of me.”
Cameras clicked furiously.
“Four years ago, I nearly died giving birth to my daughter, Brielle. I was in a coma for three days. When I woke up, my husband wasn’t there. He was with Astrid, comforting her through a personal crisis.” Mira’s voice hardened. “He visited me three times during my two–week hospital stay. Each visit lasted less than an hour.”
A reporter’s hand shot up, but Patricia waved them down.
Mira continued: “Last year, I became pregnant again. I was terrified–my first delivery had nearly killed me. But my husband and his mother insisted I try for a son.” She pulled out her phone and pressed play.
Kieran’s voice filled the room: “She can handle that risk again. But Astrid–she’s never been through childbirth. I won’t put her in that kind of danger.”
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
“That’s my husband, Mira said quietly, “explaining to his mother why I should risk my life for another pregnancy while his mistress needed to be protected. So I terminated that pregnancy. Because I realized I wasn’t a wife to him. I was livestock.”
The room erupted with questions, but Mira raised her hand for silence.
“Three days ago, Selene Ravencrest filed an emergency custody petition claiming I abandoned my daughter. The ‘evidence‘ is photos of me having dinner with a colleague -Dr. Julian Brooks, a teacher at the school where I’ve been volunteering as a

physician.” She pulled out the photos Selene had leaked. “These photos were taken completely out of context and leaked to the media to destroy my reputation.”
She stood, her hands gripping the table.
“I love my daughter more than life itself. I would die for her. I almost did die for her. And I will not let Kieran Ravencrest and his family take her from me just because I finally found the courage to leave an abusive marriage.”
“Abusive?” a reporter shouted. “Can you elaborate?”
Mira pulled up her sleeve, revealing faded bruises. “These are from when Selene Ravencrest physically struck me two months ago. My husband witnessed it and did nothing.” She pulled out more photos. “These document other incidents. There’s also testimony from household staff about the verbal and emotional abuse I endured.”
The room was in chaos now, reporters shouting questions over each other.
Patricia stood. “That’s all the time we have. Thank you.”
Mira walked out of the conference room on shaking legs, and the moment the door closed behind her, she collapsed against the wall.
“You did it,” Patricia said, gripping her shoulders. “You just declared war on the most powerful pack in Oakwood. There’s no going back now.”
“I know.” Mira’s voice was barely a whisper. “God help me,
I know.”
