In an autopsy room on the outskirts of Luminport City.
The room was brightly lit.
“The deceased is an 18-year-old female. Time of death is approximately 36 hours ago. Lividity is reddish, and both pupils are equal and round... Do we have the DNA results from the semen sample?”
“We do. The results confirm the semen belongs to Suspect A from the serial rape-murder case. This is the third young woman killed this year.”
“What a monster. Absolutely inhuman...”
Nora Hayes’s spirits were low. If the killer wasn’t caught soon, more innocent young women would die.
She lowered her gaze, sighed, and pulled off her gloves, washing her hands carefully in the specialized sanitizing sink.
“Nora, you have a date tonight, don’t you?” her assistant, Julia Ryland, suddenly teased from the side. “Our Dr. Hayes, who works tirelessly year-round, actually requested a reduced caseload today.”
“Yeah...” Nora took off her white coat and nodded with a smile.
She usually wore a cold, detached expression when facing a body, so it was rare to see such a soft, charming look on her face.
Today was her 29th birthday, and Aaron Wells had promised her a surprise tonight.
Aaron had been an upperclassman of hers in medical school and now worked in the cardiac surgery department at Riverside Private Hospital. They had been together for seven years and were at an age where marriage seemed like the next logical step. Perhaps his surprise was a proposal?
The thought lifted her mood slightly.
Nora said her goodbyes and left, driving to the hospital to pick Aaron up from work.
She parked in the hospital’s underground garage and was about to head upstairs when she heard a low, sensual moan.
The sound was a low, breathless moan that teetered on the fine line between a gasp and a whimper.
Nora couldn't believe someone would be so depraved as to do something like this in a hospital garage that reeked of formalin.
