The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 210

Not only was she invading his personal space, but her hands were still firmly wrapped around his wrist.

"Sorry!"

Nora released his hand like she had been burned, stumbling back a step to put a safe distance between them.

From his height, Nathan had a perfect view of the tips of her ears turning a violent, glowing shade of red.

The brief tension evaporated, replaced by a quiet amusement. Nathan let out a low chuckle. "It's fine."

"You were asking what I touched with this hand, right?"

Nora refused to meet his eyes, nodding stiffly while her fingers nervously picked at the hem of her shirt.

"The steering wheel."

"The steering wheel?"

The sheer impossibility of the answer pulled Nora out of her embarrassment, her analytical brain immediately firing back up. "A steering wheel wouldn't smell like that. At least, nowhere near that pungent."

The man in the lobby had been practically radiating the scent. Even if someone drove a cab for twenty-four hours straight, the smell wouldn't seep into their very pores like a marinade.

"Maybe he's an auto mechanic," Nathan suggested casually. He glanced up at the digital floor display and gave Nora a gentle nudge. "Stop analyzing everything. We're home."

Nora really couldn't place the smell, and figured Nathan was probably right. She only saw the guy for a second; her occupational hazard was just acting up again, forcing her to solve a puzzle that wasn't there.

She finally had a day off. She needed to let her brain shut down for a few hours.

"I'm heading in," Nora said, waving at Nathan as she walked toward her door.

Nathan stood in the hallway, watching her punch in her code and disappear inside before turning to his own apartment.

His grandfather moved with terrifying efficiency. The old man had already texted to say he had secured a new property for him, and renovations were currently in overdrive. The new place was located right next to the police precinct, in the neighborhood directly adjacent to this one.
