The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 221

Out on the City Loop Expressway, Nathan Peyton pushed his car to seventy-five miles per hour. A last-minute phone call had forced him to make a detour back to the task force office, guaranteeing he would be late for the charity gala. Still, if he kept his foot heavy on the gas, he wouldn't miss too much. Reaching for his phone to check the time, Nathan thought about texting Nora Hayes to see if she had arrived. Suddenly, his nose tickled, and an unexpected sneeze caught him off guard. He jerked the steering wheel, sending the car swerving sharply across the lanes in a dangerous S-shape. A cacophony of blaring horns erupted behind him. A sleek black car accelerated, pulling up alongside Nathan's window. The glass rolled down to reveal a driver who sounded equal parts annoyed and concerned. "Buddy, what's the rush? You got a death wish? Safety first!" Nathan didn't bother responding. Partnering with the Devereaux Group would bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in pure profit. If the two families were permanently bound together? The Hayes Group would absolutely skyrocket. The more Leonard thought about it, the more his pulse raced. He was ready to hammer out the wedding details with Nolan right then and there.

Nolan shot him a cool, dismissive glance and let out a scoff. "Who are you, mister? What does my conversation with Nora have to do with you?"

"I'm—"
