Nora and her colleagues from the Forensics Division finished photographing the grisly scene.

The body was carefully bagged and loaded into the transport van headed for the precinct.

"Find anything?"

At the sound of Nathan's voice, Nora didn't turn around. "Not yet."

"If I had to point out one thing, the blood volume is unusually high."

Nathan swept his gaze across the floor. Almost three-quarters of the marble center was stained crimson.

It really was an alarming amount of blood.

Nora peeled off her latex gloves. "I'm heading back to the morgue."

Nathan nodded. "Alright."

She took a few steps toward the exit before pausing, glancing back over her shoulder. "If you get any news on Nolan, let me know."

Regardless of how things looked, Nolan was her friend. She couldn't just walk away and pretend she didn't care.

"You aren't worried he's the killer?"

Nora shook her head firmly. "He didn't do this."

Nathan's gaze darkened.

"Nora, that's not something an objective medical examiner should say."

The scene was clear-cut. An eyewitness placed the suspect right next to the victim. The suspect was currently MIA, highly indicative of fleeing a murder scene.

Nathan understood her loyalty, but letting personal bias cloud a homicide investigation was dangerous.

"I trust my judgment," Nora stated flatly, turning on her heel and walking out.

Nathan stood in the grand hall, his eyes heavy as he tracked her retreating figure.

After a long moment, he clicked his tongue, shoved his hands into his pockets, and went after her.

Nora had just settled into the driver's seat of her car. She reached for her seatbelt when something freezing cold was suddenly pressed against her flushed, throbbing cheek.

She jumped, her hand stalling mid-air. Looking up, she saw Nathan standing outside her open window, holding an ice pack directly against the side of her face that Rosalind had slapped.
