The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 239

Someone looking for Nora?

Every detective in the conference room swiveled their chair to look at her.

Nora was just as bewildered. "For me?"

"Yeah, and..." The officer hesitated, shifting uncomfortably as if struggling for the right words.

Nora immediately picked up on the tension. "What's wrong? Just say it."

The officer grimaced. "They're barricading the front gate. You should probably just come see for yourself, Dr. Hayes."

They?

Frowning, Nora stood up. "Alright, I'll go take a look."

Nathan dropped the case files on the table, but before he could move, Nora held up a hand. "Captain, keep the briefing going. I'll be right back."

Reluctantly, Nathan nodded.

Without looking at anyone else, Nora grabbed her phone and headed out of the Major Crimes building.

When she reached the precinct's main gate, she finally understood why the officer had looked so uncomfortable.

Police stations were generally quiet, sterile places unless a high-profile suspect was being brought in. Aside from the occasional patrol unit rolling out, crowds didn't randomly gather at the entrance.

But today, a massive mob was entirely blocking the front gate.

At the center of the chaos stood a middle-aged couple draped in luxury designer clothing, screaming old money.

Their eyes were swollen from crying. They leaned heavily on each other to keep from collapsing, muttering incoherently.

Behind them, a group of furious supporters glared violently at the precinct, acting as though they had been subjected to the greatest injustice in the world.

"Dr. Hayes!"

The gate guard practically sighed in relief when he saw her. "Do you know these people? They're demanding to see you."

Nora walked closer, shaking her head. "Never seen them before in my life."

The guard looked worried. "They're specifically asking for you. Be careful, Dr. Hayes. They look like they're out for blood."
