The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 403

"I need a favor. I want you to find out exactly what Nora likes," Nathan said, getting straight to the point.

"Originally, my grandfather was going to be the one to ask you, but I figured it was better if I brought it up myself. When we first got engaged, Nora didn't have any real expectations for the wedding, and out of respect, I didn't push her on the details. But things between us have changed. I want our wedding to be filled with the things she truly loves."

Valerie gasped, absolutely floored. She had already thought the Peyton family treated Nora like royalty, but hearing Nathan pour his heart out like this sent her into a tailspin of pure excitement. Seeing her best friend find true, undeniable happiness was the greatest feeling in the world. Knowing the hell Nora had been through, witnessing her land such a devoted, incredible husband brought tears of joy to Valerie's eyes.

But she quickly forced herself to play it cool.

"You know, you could just ask Nora directly," Valerie pointed out logically. "Who better to tell you what she wants than the bride herself?"

Nathan's intense gaze shifted away for a fraction of a second. "I want it to be a surprise."

Through their time together, he had come to understand Nora's personality perfectly. She was incredibly low-maintenance. No matter what kind of wedding he threw together, she would smile and say she loved it. But deep down, Nathan fiercely wanted to give her a day that would genuinely take her breath away. That was why he was resorting to espionage.

"I need you to subtly feel out her preferences over the next few weeks," he requested.

Valerie's eyes lit up with sudden understanding. So, the big, bad police captain wanted her to go undercover as his personal informant.

"Tsk, tsk," Valerie teased, shaking her head in awe. "Look at you two. You're about to walk down the aisle and you're still acting like a pair of high school sweethearts playing the pure romance card. If Nora wasn't my absolute best friend, I'd never agree to play spy for you. But consider it done. I'll get every detail you need out of her."

"It's just a minor detail," Nathan said dismissively. "Don't overthink it."

Nora opened her mouth to argue. Giving up a private medical estate was not a *minor detail*. But then she realized that, to the Peyton family's vast empire, it probably really was just a matter of making a single phone call. They were about to become family. Drawing strict boundary lines now would probably only hurt their feelings. It was better to accept the grace quietly and find a meaningful way to repay his grandfather in the future.

"I'll go thank Grandpa personally later," she decided. Knowing her mother was recovering in such a pristine, luxurious environment, she couldn't in good conscience let the gesture go unacknowledged.

Nathan didn't try to stop her this time. "Alright."

Seeing that he didn't put up a fight, Nora felt a deep sense of relief settle over her.
