Nora understood where he was coming from.
A faint uneasiness settled in her chest, but she didn't know much about the Peyton family's internal affairs.
She was just a forensic pathologist. The intricate, cutthroat politics of a billionaire family were entirely out of her depth. Even if she wanted to help, she wouldn't know where to start.
After thinking it over, she decided not to add to his burden.
Seeing that he didn't look overly stressed, she figured he was mostly just taking precautions.
That meant Arthur might not necessarily pull anything, and even if he did, it probably wouldn't amount to much.
"It's getting late. You should get some sleep; you have a busy day tomorrow."
Nora had requested the day off, but Nathan still had to work.
"Keep me updated on any new developments."
A small smile tugged at Nathan's lips. "If you want me to report to you, just say so."
"It's not like I'd say no."
Nora choked on her words.
"That's not what I meant at all!"
She wasn't the type of controlling girlfriend who constantly checked up on her partner. He didn't need to report his every move to her.
Besides, it wasn't a mystery what he would be doing. With the murder investigation, he'd be running himself ragged. He hardly had the time or energy for anything else.
Doubting him would be a complete waste of time.
"So I don't need to report to you 24/7 after we're married? Dr. Hayes is incredibly perceptive. I doubt anything I do could escape your sharp eyes anyway."
Catching the teasing lilt in his voice, she glared at him. "What, are you getting nervous?"
"Absolutely not."
He said it with unwavering conviction.
"I could never do anything to betray you. You never have to worry."
"You sure know what to say."
Nora didn't argue further. Checking the time, she said, "Go to sleep."
They had both been working all day, but at least Nora had caught a break here and there. Nathan had likely been on his feet non-stop.
"Alright."
