Nora nodded. "I'm glad I could help."

She hadn't actually known what was going down at the ranch, but out of habit, she had instructed the officers to surround the perimeter from multiple angles.

Her logic was that the ranch was a highly sensitive location, and a grid search might uncover overlooked evidence.

That sweep was exactly what led them to find Nathan and the others trapped in the cellar.

"The cellar was hidden away, but when we arrived, it had been deliberately exposed. I took a few guys down to investigate, and someone locked the heavy stone door from the outside."

The door was practically impossible to open from the inside.

Nathan and his team had tried everything before finally managing to break free.

They had bumped into the arriving backup right as they made their way back up to the main grounds.

"A forensics team is checking the cellar now."

Judging by Nathan's tone, Nora knew they were going to find something massive down there.

"That's good."

Since Nathan had everything under control, Nora didn't ask any further questions.

The restrained man gave a bitter laugh as the swarm of cops surrounded them. "I knew I shouldn't have gone soft."

He thought that if he had just killed the women immediately, things might have ended differently.

Julia scoffed. "Save it. Captain Peyton was just playing along. If you had tried to kill us right out of the gate, do you really think you'd still be conscious? You would've been laid out flat."

The man choked on his words. He wanted to argue but didn't dare, lowering his eyes in suffocating defeat.

Nathan took Nora's hand and guided her out. "Let's head back."

Nora didn't object. The three of them climbed into the car.

On the ride back to the precinct, Julia wanted to ask more about the case. The man's disjointed confession had left her with a few missing puzzle pieces.

But seeing Nathan intensely typing on his phone and Nora staring blankly out the window, looking drained, she decided to keep her mouth shut.

As soon as they arrived, Nathan immediately led his team to interrogate the suspects.

After a brief rest, Nora headed toward the interrogation rooms.
