Having worked in the precinct long enough to read people, Julia instantly realized she had struck gold.
"I knew it! It's totally different, isn't it? Is the Captain super needy when it's just the two of you?"
To make the usually composed, elegant Dr. Hayes look this flustered and tongue-tied, the intimidating Captain Peyton had to be a total softie in private!
Just the thought of it was thrilling!
Julia was practically vibrating with excitement.
"Oh my god, Nora, come on, you can tell me! You guys are basically an old married couple already. Just give me a hint! I swear I won't tell a soul!"
Nora had always been susceptible to gentle pleading.
She found it nearly impossible to say no when another woman turned on the charm.
She had always been lenient with her assistants in the past.
And Julia had been her dedicated assistant for quite some time now.
"Actually—"
Nora opened her mouth, hesitating as she tried to figure out how to phrase things without entirely destroying Nathan's tough-guy reputation. Suddenly, a sharp knock echoed through the breakroom.
Before either of them could respond, the door swung open.
Nathan poked his head inside. "Dr. Hayes, are you ready to head out?"
Julia jumped, not expecting him to appear so quickly. Being caught gossiping about someone right to their face sent a wave of sheer panic through her.
Terrified Nathan might find out she was prying into his personal life, she guiltily grabbed Nora's arm and practically shoved her toward the door.
"Yes, she is!"
Julia sold her teammate out without a second thought.
"Nora, the Captain is here to pick you up, you should get going! I'm totally on board to be your bridesmaid. Just text me the details and I'll be there."
