“Your brain short circuits easily.”

The saleswoman reappeared cautiously from the back room. “I’ve pulled some pieces I think might work beatifully, if you’d like to see them?”
Alexander looked at me, waiting.
I sighed. “Fine. Show us what you’ve got,”
Her relief was palpable. “Wonderful! Right this way.”
She led us to a private viewing area with a velvet sofa and full length mirrors. Pieces were already laid out on a silk covered table, arranged by color.
“These are from our Paris collection,” she explained, gesturing to delicate lace sets in cream and blush. And these, she moved to darker pieces, “are from Milan. A bit more dramatic.”
The Milan pieces were stunning. Black lace with strategic cutouts, deep burgundy silk with sheer panels, and navy blue satin with intricate embroidery.
“Try them on,” Alexander said, settling onto the sofa.
“You’re staying?”
“Obviously.”
“Most husbands wait outside.”
“I’m not most husbands.” His eyes traveled over me slowly. “And I want to see everything.”
The saleswoman smiled knowingly. “The fitting room is just through that door. Take your time.”
I gathered several pieces and retreated to the fitting room, a spacious area with flattering lighting and another full length mirror. The first set was cream lace, delicate and romantic. I slipped it on, adjusting the straps.
“Let me see,” Alexander called from outside.
I opened the door slightly. “It’s just underwear.”
“Show me anyway.”

I stepped out, feeling suddenly self conscious under his intense gaze.
He didn’t say anything for a long moment, just looked at me with an expression I couldn’t quite read
“Well I prompted.
“Turn around”
I did, slowly, feeling his eyes on every inch of exposed skin.
“We’re getting that one,” he said finally, his voice rougher than before.
I returned to the fitting room, shaking my head. The next piece was black lace with cutouts along the sides and a plunging neckline that left very little to the imagination.
When I stepped out this time, Alexander’s reaction was immediate. He sat forward, elbows on his knees.
“Fuck.” His eyes darkened. “Come here.”
I walked closer, stopping just out of reach.
“Closer,” he ordered.
I took another step. His hand shot out, gripping my hip and pulling me between his spread thighs.
“This one’s definitely coming home,” he murmured, his fingers tracing the cutout along my ribs. “Might not even let you wear it out of the bedroom.”
“Then what’s the point of buying it?”
“The point is watching you wear it for approximately thirty seconds before I rip it off.”
“These are expensive. You’re not ripping anything.”
His thumb brushed the underside of my breast through the lace. “We’ll see about that.”
“Mr. Carter,” I said, trying to sound stern despite the heat building low in my belly. “Behave.”
“Where’s the fun in that?” But he released me, leaning back with obvious reluctance. “Show me the rest.”
I tried on four more pieces, each receiving enthusiastic approval from Alexander and increasingly creative descriptions of what he planned to do while I wore them. By the time I emerged in the final set, a deep burgundy silk with sheer panels, his patience had clearly worn thin.
“That’s it,” he announced, standing abruptly. “We’re taking everything.”
“Everything? Alex, that’s like ten pieces.”
“So? You need variety.”
“I need variety,” I repeated flatly.
“For me. I need variety.” He pulled me against him, his mouth finding my ear. “I need options when I’m deciding what to peel off you. Sometimes I’ll want the innocent cream lace. Other times I’ll want this.” His hand slid down my spine. “All dark and tempting.”

The saleswoman appeared at exactly the wrong moment, clearing her throat delicately, “Have we made any decisions?
“All of them,” Alexander said without looking away from me. “We’ll take everything she tried on.”
“Wonderful! I’ll wrap them up for you.”
