Chapter 283
“We should explore the island. I suggested.
Alexander ser down his cup, considering There’s a hiking trail through the Mastic Reserve Leads to some incredible cliff views overlooking the ocean”
That sounds amazing”
It’s about an hour drive from here.”
Let’s do it.”
After breakfast, we cleaned up together. Alexander washed while I dried, our movements easy and practiced. When the last plate was put away, he pulled out his phone.
Tl arrange a driver,” he said, already dialing.
The car arrived forty minutes later, a sleek SUV with a driver who greeted us with a warm smile.
Morning. Mr. and Mrs. Carter. Heading to Mastic Reserve?”
“That’s right,” Alexander confirmed, helping me into the back seat.
The drive took us away from the resort areas, past colorful houses and local shops. Palm trees lined the roads, their fronds creating dappled shadows across the pavement. We passed pristine beaches where locals walked their dogs, and children played in the shallow water.
It’s beautiful here,” I said, watching a group of pelicans dive into the waves.
“Wait until you see the reserve,” Alexander replied, his hand finding mine.
The landscape changed as we drove inland. Lush tropical forest replaced beach views, the canopy so thick it blocked out most of the sunlight. Vines hung from massive trees, and I caught glimpses of bright flowers among the greenery.
We pulled into a parking area. A wooden sign marked the trailhead, weathered but still readable.
This is it,” the driver said. “I’ll wait here for you.”
Alexander helped me out, slinging the backpack over his shoulder. “Ready for an adventure?”
Always.”
The trail began in dense subtropical forest, the air immediately cooler under the thick canopy. Sunlight filtered through in scattered beams, illuminating patches of moss and ferns. Birds called from the trees, their songs echoing through the stillness.
Alexander took my hand as we walked, ostensibly to help me over roots and rocks. But even when the path smoothed out, he didn’t let go.
“Careful here, he said, guiding me around a particularly gnarly root system.

Chapter 283
The air smelled of earth and flowers, rich and alive. I breathed deeply, feeling tention I didn’t know I’d been carrying drain from my shoulders.
“This is incredible,” I said, ducking under a low–hanging branch.
“Better than the office?”
“So much better.”
We walked in comfortable silence, the trail winding through increasingly dense vegetation. Masive trees towered overhead. their trunks wrapped in vines and moss. Every so often, a lizard would dart across the path, disappearing into the undergrowth.
Alexander’s thumb traced circles on my palm, the gesture absent and intimate.
“You’re quiet, I observed.
“Just enjoying this. Being here with you.”
Something warm bloomed in my chest at his words. “Me too.”
The path opened suddenly into a clearing, sunlight flooding in. Butterflies danced among wildflowers, their wings brilliant orange and blue.
“Look at that,” I breathed, stopping to watch them.
Alexander stood behind me, his hands settling on my hips. “Beautiful.”
“They’re amazing.”
“I meant you.” His lips brushed my ear. “But the butterflies are nice too.”
I leaned back against his chest, watching the butterflies flit from flower to flower. This moment felt perfect, suspended in time. The dense canopy filtered sunlight into scattered beams that danced across Alexander’s shoulders, and the humid air wrapped around us like a warm blanket.
“We should keep moving,” I said eventually, breaking the spell. “We haven’t even reached the cliff yet.”
“Five more minutes.” His arms tightened around my waist. “I’m enjoying the view.”
“The butterflies or me?”
“Both.” He pressed a kiss below my ear. “Mostly you.”
I extracted myself from his embrace, ignoring the way my body protested the loss of his warmth. “Come on. You promised me dramatic ocean views.”
We continued along the trail, the path narrowing as vegetation crowded in from both sides. Massive trees towered overhead, their trunks thick with moss and climbing vines.
Alexander’s hand never left mine, his thumb tracing absent circles on my palm.
“Stop here,” he said suddenly, pulling me to a halt.
We stood before a massive mahogany tree, its trunk so wide that three people couldn’t circle it with linked arms. The bark was dark and weathered, with deep grooves running up its length. Roots twisted out of the ground like frozen serpents.

Alexander backed me against the trunk before I could finish the question, his body caging me in. One hand braced beside my head while the other gripped my hip.
“Been wanting to do this since we left the mansion,” he murmured, his mouth hovering above mine.
“Do what?”
“This.” He kissed me, hard and demanding, his tongue sweeping into my mouth without preamble.
I gasped against his lips, my hands flying up to grip his shoulders. He deepened the kiss immediately, his teeth catching my lower lip and tugging. The rough bark bit into my back through my tank top, but I couldn’t bring myself to care.
His hand slid up my ribs, stopping just below my breast. His thumb brushed the underside, a teasing touch that made me whimper into his mouth.
“Alex,” I breathed when he finally pulled back for air.
“Mm?” His lips traveled down my jaw to my neck, teeth scraping sensitive skin. “You were saying?”
“We’re in the middle of a forest.”
“So?” He sucked hard where my neck met my shoulder, definitely leaving a mark. “Nobody’s around.”
His hand moved higher, palming my breast through my sports bra. I arched into the touch, my head falling back against the tree trunk.
“That’s it,” he encouraged, his thumb finding my nipple and circling it. “Let me hear you.”
I bit my lip, fighting back the moan building in my throat. His other hand slid down, gripping my ass and pulling me tighter against him. I could feel how hard he was through his hiking pants, the thick length of him pressing into my stomach.
“Feel that?” His voice was rough, strained. “That’s what you do to me. Just walking next to you drives me insane.”
He kissed me again, this time slower but no less intense.
