Chapter 106: My Love.

I stay in front of the mirror for a few seconds, the steam from the shower fogs up the glass a little,

but I can still see myself.

My face, my eyes, my lips still a little swollen.

I take a deep breath, everything feels… strange. Not in a bad way, just… Just weird.

This bathroom, this mirror. For a long time it was part of my daily routine. Here I got ready for

work, here I removed my makeup at night, here I kept thinking while the water fell on my back.

I run my fingers along the edge of the sink. As if I were acknowledging something I already knew.

I take a towel, bring it close to my face and breathe in its aroma. It smells the same.

The same soap, the same fabric softener.

I close my eyes for a moment, it’s as if time has stopped in this house.

I finish getting ready and get dressed in the clothes I brought the night before. When I open the bathroom door and step out into the hallway, I pause for a moment.

That corridor… I look at it calmly, the same walls, the same lamps.

And suddenly a sensation crosses me. A déjà vu.

It’s not just a feeling, it’s a memory. I’ve already lived this.

I traveled this same path so many times… In the mornings, when I went down for breakfast before

going to work, I walk slowly. My footsteps sound soft on the floor as I make my way to the stairs.

When I get to the start of them, I can see the living room from above. And then I feel it.

The aroma of coffee. That smell that filled the house so many mornings.

My house… Or at least… the house that was my home for years.

I calmly go down the steps, and when I reach the main floor, the housekeeper appears from the hallway.

She stops at the sight of me, her eyes immediately light up.

“Mrs. Clara…”

Her voice sounds excited. I smile a little shyly.

“Good morning.”

She gets a little closer.

“It is a great happiness to see you here.”

Her words take me by surprise. But they also make me feel warm inside.

“Thank you,” I reply softly.

I go to the dining room, the table is almost ready. The aroma of breakfast fills the atmosphere.

And then I see him… Ethan is in the kitchen, not just watching. It’s helping.

He places plates on the table while talking to one of the cooks.

When he looks up and sees me, his face changes immediately, he smiles.

That smile that I recognize so well.

He walks over to the table and moves one of the chairs for me.

“Good morning,” he says with a warmth that reminds me of too many mornings from the past.

I sit down.

Breakfast begins to be served, coffee, eggs, baked bread, fruits.

Everything looks delicious, it’s the breakfast I enjoy… there is my favorite type of bread, my favorite fruits, eggs cooked just the way I like them…

Ethan takes his place in front of me. And for a moment… Everything feels exactly as before.

As if time had decided to return, the aroma of breakfast fills the dining room.

I look at the table and can’t help but smile.

“Thank you for breakfast,” I say. “Everything looks delicious.”

Ethan just tilts his head a little, as if that simple thank you is enough.

I take the fork and start eating.

The food is really good… Everything has that familiar flavor that I remember so well from mornings

in this house.

For a few minutes we just eat, the conversation is calm, light. But in a moment I feel something, I look up.

Ethan is no longer eating, he is looking at me. Not in an awkward way… but with such a fixed

attention that it makes me feel slightly aware of every movement I make.

I smile a little.

“Do I have anything?”

I reach my lips quickly and wipe them with my napkin, thinking that maybe I have some trace of

food.

He shakes softly, his eyes still on me.

“I wish for more sunrises with you here.”

The sentence comes without warning, my smile stops for a second.

It doesn’t disappear completely… but it changes. I feel something move inside my chest.

Something soft, something that is also a little scary. I look down at the plate for a moment before

looking at it again. I nod slightly.

“If you invite me,” I say with a small smile that reappears, “maybe I can do it again.” And for some

reason, as I take another sip of coffee, the morning feels a little warmer.

Ethan moves quickly around the house after breakfast.

He goes upstairs to change, comes down a few minutes later ready to leave. Everything about him

seems light this morning, as if the day has a different weight.

“I’ll take you to your apartment,” he said as he grabbed the car keys. “That way you can change into

your work clothes.”

I don’t argue, I simply nod.

The drive is peaceful. The city is already awake, full of movement, but inside the car the

atmosphere is serene. From time to time our eyes meet and we both smile without saying much.

When the car pulls up in front of my building, I feel something strange. As if this little moment is

more important than it should be.

I unbuckle my seatbelt, Ethan gets out of the car too, and walks with me to the entrance.

We stop face to face, for an instant no one says anything.

Then he leans slightly and his lips touch mine, it’s a short kiss… Soft. But enough to make something in my chest move again.

When we separate, he looks at me with that warmth he has had all morning.

“See you soon, my love.”

The words come straight. No preparation… And they dig into my chest in a way I didn’t expect.

My love….

For a second I am silent, processing what he just said.

Then he smiled softly.

“See you soon…”

I say those words as I look at him, but when I turn to enter the building, I know that something

inside me is still repeating what he said.

I go up to the apartment still with a strange feeling in my chest.
