Chapter 194: An Unexpected Journey.–1
Ethan
I made the decision before t even said it out loud. It wasn’t impulsive, not one of those moments when your heart takes over from your head… no. Not this time. This time I thought it through, weighed it up. And even so… I wanted it. Because some decisions don’t need to be rushed, but they do need clarity. And I have it. More than ever.
I want to ask Clara to marry me again… Not like before, not from the comfort of believing everything was guaranteed, not from the version of me that got complacent… and lost her. I want to do it right, and that means more than just a ring. It means history, it means roots, it means… family.
That’s why, when I see her that afternoon in the living room, reviewing her planner with that focused expression I know so well, I know it’s time to take the first step. Not the final one… but the right one.
“I want to propose something to you,” I say, leaning my shoulder against the doorframe.
She looks up.
“That sounds serious.”
I barely smile. “Not so much… yet.”
I close the distance between us and sit down across from her.
“I want us to take a trip.”
She frowns slightly, curious.
“A trip?”
“To your family’s city.”
Silence… It’s not long, but long enough to tell she wasn’t expecting it.
“I’d like to have dinner with your mother,” I add calmly. “To know how she is… to see her.”
Her eyes soften.
“Ethan…” she says, almost in a whisper. And there it is. That reaction that can’t be faked.
“It’s time,” I continue. “Not just for you and me to be okay… but to do things the right way.”
Clara looks down for a second, as if processing more than what I’m saying out loud.
“My schedule is pretty tight…” she finally replies. “But I can move some things around for this weekend.”
She looks up at me.
“I’m glad… really… that you want to know about my mom.”
I nod.

“Of course.”
I don’t say anything else, there’s no need… But inside… Inside, this is already moving forward.

The trip comes sooner than I expected, maybe because I’ve been busy organizing everything she doesn’t see. It’s not just a visit, it can’t be just that.
I’ve spoken with her mother, I’ve carefully set the stage… without raising any suspicions. I’ve found the perfect place for that dinner, and yes… I’ve also thought about the ring. I don’t have it yet, but I already know what it will be like. Because this time… every detail matters, every step is intentional. Every gesture… has meaning.
The journey is peaceful. Clara is beside me, relaxed, glancing out the window now and then.
She doesn’t suspect a thing. And that… tells me I’m doing it right.
The drive is a bit long, but when I’m with her, time flies.
“Did you reserve a place for dinner with Mom, or would you prefer I…?” she asks at one point.
“Yes,” I reply, interrupting her. “Somewhere quiet. You’ll like it.”
She nods.
“As long as it’s not too formal…”
I let out a low laugh.
“Don’t worry.”
But I know she’ll like it, because I thought about her. Not about impressing her… but about making her feel special.
“You’ve been thinking about everything lately.”
“You were busy, so in a free moment, I sat down and planned something simple for these days.”
We arrive at her mother’s house in the afternoon.
ľ
The place hasn’t changed much. And that… gives me a strange feeling. Familiar, almost nostalgic.
Clara gets out of the car first, and I calmly follow.
She knocks on the door… and a few seconds later… it opens. Her mother appears. And her expression… It’s pure astonishment.
“Clara?” But her gaze quickly shifts to me. “Ethan…”
I smile.
“Mrs. Sinclair.”
Without hesitation, I approach and embrace her respectfully, warmly. Just like I used to. And she… She

docan’t hesitate either. She returns the hug
“It’s good to see you again,” she says. And she means it, I can feel it.
