Vanessa

I raise my hand without thinking; the gesture comes naturally. As if my body has moved ahead of

my mind.

Alexander is still in front of me, still, attentive, with that gaze that seems to read too much and sa

too little.

The dimness of the room makes every line of him more intense, and then I truly observe him.

His bare chest is strong, broad. Marked by a masculine firmness that doesn’t need to be displaye

to be noticed. His shoulders seem to bear the weight of the world with ease. His arms are large,

defined, tense even at rest. Lower down, his abdomen is outlined in the dim light, hard, clean, powerful. There is something profoundly sexual about him, not vulgar, not obvious. Just…

masculine. A physical presence that commands respect effortlessly.

I place my other hand on my own chest and feel a slight stirring there. A small, different pulse. Not fear, not anxiety, something else.

He asks again, in a low voice.

“What’s wrong?”

I don’t answer, because I’m asking myself the same question.

What’s going on? And the answer comes clearly. Nothing extraordinary is happening, there’s just a man and a woman in a room. Nothing more. As much as he is Alexander, as much as he

represents everything, he’s still a man. And I’m still a woman. And a woman can see a man for who

he is, she can perceive it, she can notice when someone is attractive, handsome. Dangerous in the

right way.

I swallow, looking at him without breaking eye contact.

“When was the last time you made love?”

The question comes from me, and even I’m surprised, Alexander doesn’t frown. He’s not

uncomfortable, he just tilts his head slightly, as if he’s valuing my honesty before answering.

“A long time ago.”

His voice is deep, low.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve known what it’s like to make love to a woman I truly love.”

Something about that sentence stays with me, not out of romanticism, but out of truth.

I nod slowly, glance away for a second, then look back at him.

“And when was the last time you had a naked woman in your bed?”

This time I do notice a tiny glimmer in his eyes, almost a smile, though not quite.

“Two nights ago.”

My throat moves as I swallow. I don’t know why I care, but I do. I nod again, and then he asks: “A you?”

The question remains between us, as does my nakedness. I take a deep breath. I don’t feel like pretending, not tonight.

“The last time a man made love to me… was years ago.”

My own voice feels softer, more vulnerable than I’d like.

“Sex… I had sex a week and a half ago.”

He looks at me. He doesn’t judge, he doesn’t mock, he doesn’t ask for names. He doesn’t ask for details. He just looks at me, and his silence makes me more uncomfortable than any words. I let out a small, bitter laugh.

“I know.”

I cross my arms slightly, though not out of shame.

“You must think I’m easy.”

His expression changes only slightly, becoming harder. As if he doesn’t like hearing that. But I continue, because I need to say it.

“But being a woman doesn’t make me a stone.”

I take another step into the room.

“A woman has temptations too.”

My voice lowers.

“A woman also feels desire.”

Now I’m closer… Close enough to feel the warmth of his body, close enough to notice the faint, clean scent of his skin. Alexander doesn’t move, but he doesn’t back away either. And that changes everything.

I slowly raise my hand and bring it to his face. My fingers first brush against his rough, defined jawline. The shadow of his stubble barely grazes my fingertips.

I move my hand slowly upward, until I reach his mouth. I run my thumb along his lips, slowly. Feeling the warm firmness of that masculine line that rarely smiles genuinely.

Alexander holds his breath, I notice… I do too. I don’t know when I stopped thinking about Etha don’t know when the pain turned into this strange tension. I only know that I’m here, touching another man. And that for the first time in a very long time… someone is looking at me as if I tru exist.

“I didn’t say anything, Vanessa. Don’t jump to conclusions.”

I bite

my lower lip to suppress a smile that threatened to escape.

My fingers glide along his lower lip again; it feels soft… it felt good to do that. I wanted more, I wanted to feel the man in front of me. To feel caressed… and no, it’s not the alcohol, it’s more… it’s more the effect of neglecting my body, of the absence of men in my life.
