Chapter 229: Strangely Real.-2
Because for years I believed that loving Ethan meant adapting to him.
Today I discover that he also knows how to adapt to me.
“Approximate number of guests?” the wedding planner asks.
Ethan answers first: “A few.”
I smile.
“Very few.”
“Close family, intimate friends, and truly important people,” I add.
“No social obligations,” Ethan says.
“No inviting people for company policy,” I add.
The woman takes notes quickly.
“Understood. Emotional quality over quantity.”
“Exactly,” we both say at the same time.
We look at each other and laugh. There’s something deeply tender about agreeing like this. Then come the topics of possible dates. Seasons. Venue availability.
I get nervous again. Because talking about dates makes everything real, I place my hand on my chest.
“God… it’s really happening.”
Ethan watches me, amused.
“Do you want to run away?”
“No.” I look at him immediately. “I’m just impressed.”
I move a little closer to him on the sofa.
“You look happy.”
He barely blinks.
“And that makes me happy.”
His expression changes. Softer. Deeper. He puts an arm around me and kisses my forehead in front of the wedding planner as if no one else existed, And for a second, no one does. It’s just us, us and this second
chance.
The meeting continues amidst samples of invitation paper, cake options, and decoration suggestions I never thought I’d enjoy choosing things like this so much. Maybe because the first time I was focused on

meeting other people’s expectations. Now I just want to feel.
I want to remember every detail, I want to be present, I want to watch Ethan walk toward me and not miss that moment worrying about whether the guests are comfortable. I want to dance with him without anyone interrupting us, want to eat cake with him, even if we have to stand in the kitchen afterward, I want to laugh, I want to marry the man who finally understands how to love me. And also the woman who finally understands how to ask for what she deserves.
When the wedding planner finally gets up to leave, she leaves us with several folders and simple tasks.
“Think of three things,” she says, smiling. “What you want to feel that day, what you want to remember about that night, and what you never want to repeat from the first wedding.”
I love that question.
I walk her to the door with Ethan, and we say goodbye.
The house falls silent again.
I close the door and turn to him, looking at him for a moment.
“We’re getting married.”
He smiles.
“Yes.”
“Again.”
“And better.”
I laugh nervously and excitedly.
“Come here.”
He opens his arms and I go straight to them, he hugs me tightly, one of those hugs that soothes the soul. I rest my cheek against his chest.
“You have no idea how much I wanted us to be truly happy.”
His hand caresses my ball
“I know.”
