The CEO's Regret: Darling, Don’t Leave Me novel Chapter 324

Chapter 236:1 Am Happy.-1

Clara

I never thought a morning could feel so light. It wasn’t the weather, although New York dawned beautifu through the mansion’s windows, nor the freshly brewed coffee that perfumed the kitchen… Not even the packed schedule of things related to a wedding that, at another time in my life, would have seemed exhausting. It was because of her.

My mother was here.

I heard her laugh before I saw her appear in the hallway, a white robe tied around her waist, her hair neat styled, and a mug in her hands.

“I don’t understand how you can look so dressed up so early,” I said as she entered the living room. “It to me half an hour just to find my shoes.”

I smiled from the sofa as I checked some references on my tablet.

“Because someone has to bring dignity to this family.”

Always so modest…

“How haughty, Mrs. Sinclair.”

She gave me a mock-offended look and then kissed my head as she passed by. That simple gesture warmed my heart. Sometimes you’re still a child in front of certain people, no matter how old you are.

Ethan appeared later, impeccable as always, already dressed to leave for a meeting. Dark tie, perfect watch, the clean scent of his cologne filling the air seconds before he arrived.

He stopped when he saw us.

I was sitting next to my mother, both of us laughing about something silly related to some old photos she had found on her phone.

He watched us silently for a moment.

“What?” I asked, noticing his expression.

He shook his head slowly, moving closer.

“Nothing.”

He leaned in to kiss me gently and then greeted my mother with genuine affection. Then he looked back

at me.

“I was just thinking that I wish I could see you like this always.”

I blinked.

“Like what?”

His hand caressed my cheek.

<Chapter 236-Am-Happy-1 “Light peaceful… happy.”

I felt a sweet lump in my throat.

My mother, of course, decided to ruin the moment.

“If you’re going to get all romantic in front of me, at least pour me more coffee.”

Ethan chuckled softly. I did too. Then he Rissed my forehead.-

“I have a meeting that will last a couple of hours. Afterward, I’ll try to catch up with you for something to eat.”

“Don’t even try to give your opinion on lace,” I said.

“I would never dare.”

“That’s a lie,” my mother interjected. “Men always have opinions, even if they don’t know anything.”

Ethan smiled with his characteristic calm.

“She’s right about that.”

We watched him leave, and when the door closed, I stared at the empty space for a few seconds.

My mother glanced at me sideways.

“He loves you very much.”

I looked at her.

“Yes.”

“And you too.”

I smiled without replying. There was no need.

The drive to the atelier was filled with traffic, small talk, and that nervous excitement that fluttered inside

My mother was looking at the city like an enthusiastic tourist, pointing out shop windows, buildings. elegant people walking briskly.

“Everyone here seems important,” she commented.

“Maybe they’re all pretending.”

“Then I’d be perfect.”

We laughed… But as the car moved forward, something inside me began to stir. Because this scene… this morning… should have happened before.

At my first wedding, there was none of this. There was no mother accompanying me to try on dresses, no laughter during the drive, no shared coffee, and no unnecessary advice about veils.

<Chapter 235-Happy-1

My father had fallen ill after returning from a business trip, and everything at home revolved around hospitals, phone calls, doctors, and worry. My mother couldn’t leave him, and I insisted it didn’t matter I went to appointments alone, accompanied by assistants, by people who did their best to make me feel special, by the right people. But alone in the end…

I remember looking at myself in those enormous mirrors, thinking that something was missing, and this was it. Family, presence, calm.

My mother took my hand on the seat without even looking at me, as if she had read my thoughts.

“Are you okay?”

I nodded.

“Yes… I was just remembering.”
