Chapter 294 A Few Days Away

Chapter 294: A Few Days Away…

Clara

The place smells of fresh flowers, of polished wood. Of something new… and at the same time, of

something about to begin.

I walk slowly through the room, folder in hard, going over every detail one more time. I can’t help it/ It’s stronger than me.

“The chairs in this row should be a little more to the left… yes, like this,” I indicate gently.

One of the girls nods and adjusts the position.

I take a deep breath; everything is… almost perfect.

Two days to go, just two. And yet, I feel like my mind won’t stop. I check the tables, the centerpieces, the fabrics, the lights. Every little detail I imagined for weeks… and that is now here,

in front of me, taking real shape.

“Honey…” My mother’s voice makes me turn around.

There she is, smiling. As elegant as ever, so… present. And that, in itself, is a gift.

“You should sit down for a moment,” she says, coming closer. “You’ve been walking for hours.”

I barely smile.

“I’m fine.”

She looks at me with that expression she always has… the one that says, “I know you better than

you think.”

“That’s exactly what you used to say when you were a child and didn’t want to sleep.” I let out a

small laugh. “And in the end, I’d fall asleep anywhere.”

“Exactly.” She gently takes my arm. “Come on.”

I let myself be led to one of the chairs, for a moment… just for a moment, I allow myself to stop, to

look, to feel.

“It’s beautiful, Clara…”

My mother says softly.

I nod.

“Yes…” And it is, but it’s not just the place. It’s not just the flowers, it’s everything behind it.

Chapter 294 A Few Days Away

Everything we’ve been through to get here, everything I’ve felt, everything I… survived.

My eyes scan the room once more. And for a moment… I think of him, my father, how much I wish

he were here. I feel that little lump in my throat, but it’s not pure sadness. No… It’s something else,

softer, warmer… As if I know… that, somehow, he’s here.

“He would be proud of you,” my mother says, as if she’s read my mind.

I look at her and smile.

“I know…”

I take a deep breath, and just as I’m about to get up again… One of the girls from the team

approaches.

“Miss Sinclair…”

I nod.

“Yes, what is it?”

She’s holding a beautiful bouquet of delicate roses, perfectly arranged.

“This is for you.”

My heart leaps slightly. I don’t need to ask who it’s from. I know.

I take it carefully; the flowers are soft to the touch. And… They smell… like him.

I smile without realizing it.

“Thank you…”

The girl leaves, and I stay there. With the bouquet in my hands. My mother watches me, curious.

“From Ethan?”

I nod, almost in a whisper.

“Yes…”

Among the flowers is a small card; my fingers tremble slightly as I pick it up. I open it and read.

“Two days until I have you in front of me dressed in white… and yet it feels like I’ve been waiting for you

my whole life.”

My breath catches for a second. I keep reading.

“Thank you for choosing me… even in the midst of chaos.”

My eyes fill with tears; I can’t stop them.

“I promise that every day after that will be as special as the moment you say ‘I do.”

I hold the card to my chest and smile. But I’m already crying.

“Oh, Clara…” My mother comes over immediately. “What happened?”

I hand her the card, speechless.
