* Chapter All That Changethod 3
Chapter 26: A Call That Changed Everything.-1
Clara
The first phase of the project is ninety percent. Ninety.
I shouldn’t feel anxious about a number like that. It is a high percentage. It’s success. It’s flawless execution. But the remaining ten percent is what defines whether an expansion becomes consolidation… or a costly mistake.
I’m in the temporary office in New York. It’s not big, it’s not luxurious, but it’s functional. Large windows, partial view of the avenue, a desk that I still don’t feel mine… Not yet.
I have three screens open in front of me.
One with the general schedule of the project, another with the updated financial reports and the third with the active video call with my team at the original headquarters.
“I need you to check the logistics providers again,” I say. “I do not want any margin for delay when we enter
24
the operational phase.”
“They’re already confirmed,” Camila replies from the screen. “But we can do a double validation.”
I nod.
The call ends and I check the progress board again.
Ninety percent… I close my eyes for just a second. Not to rest. To order priorities.
This expansion involves a lot and now this new contract.
“One thing at a time,” I said to myself, putting the day’s things in order… It distresses me to be in charge of many things.
I stood up and began to repeat:
“Definitive legal registration of the headquarters, stable local hiring, adaptation of interpai protocols to the regulatory framework of the city, construction of reputation in a market that does not know me… yet.”
I let out a sigh and tried to breathe calmly.
In the midst of that “internal chaos”, a chaos that was only in my head because everything was in order
and going well, I received the call. Yes, that call… the one that would change everything. Well, it wasn’t just
any call. And I knew it as soon as I saw Mr. Nicanor’s name on the screen.
“What would happen?” I asked, looking at the screen.
Someone like him doesn’t call to congratulate. Call when something moves… or when something
trembles. Nicanor is the CEO of the company that has recently hired our services.
“Clara,” his voice was cordial, but direct. “We need to talk about the contract… rather, of financing.”
Chapter 26-Afall That Changed Everything 1
I felt the immediate change in my body, not fear Alert.
Alexander is entering the office and from my face, he knows that something is wrong.
“I hear it,” I replied calmly.
“One of the main investors in the company and in its restoration, has reservations. Not about the proposal. Not about the projection. On execution.
“Doubts? That’s what he means.”
“Yes, that’s right…”
I felt like a blow or an emptiness in my chest.
The happiness I had for receiving that contract was fading.
“You run a great company, no doubt about it… but… This is your first big contract in New York,” he said. “And
although the proposal was impeccable… some consider the operational risk to be high.”
I felt that he doubted my ability because of the lack of experience.
I didn’t blink. I didn’t let the silence feel like doubt.
“We have the equipment,” I replied. “We have the capacity.”
“It’s not enough for the… This investor’s concept is important, I think you can understand.”
That’s where the blow was.
Alexander had already stopped looking at the papers. He was watching me…
“What do you propose? Or where do you want to go?” I asked, feeling that this contract would be taken away from me.
There was a brief pause.
“A strategic alliance. Have your company work together with Blackwood Enterprises for the execution of the project.”
