Chapter 328: I Didn’t Fulfill My Mission, Part 2.

Ethan

My eyes snap open. I feel… something in my hand. I blink, looking at her fingers.

Did they move…? My breath literally stops.

“Clara…” I whisper, moving closer. “Clara…”

I stare at her.

As if blinking would make her disappear.

“Did you…?” My voice trembles. “Did you move?”

Silence… One second, two, three. And then… Again, a slight, almost imperceptible movement.

My heart explodes in my chest.

“Clara!” My voice is louder now, filled with something I haven’t felt in hours. “Clara, I’m here…”

I move closer, my hand gripping hers more firmly.

“Come on…” I whisper, desperate. “Come on, my love…”

I watch her, waiting, holding my breath because for the first time since I arrived here… I feel

something different. It’s not pain, it’s not fear. It’s… Hope. And I cling to it as if it were the only thing

I have left.

My heart is still pounding as I leave the room. I don’t walk… I practically run.

“Nurse!” my voice cuts through the hallway. “Please!”

One of them turns her head, surprised by my tone, by the urgency I can’t hide.

“My wife…” I breathe heavily. “She moved, I think… I think she’s going to wake up.”

The words tumble out, filled with something I haven’t felt in hours.

Hope.

“She moved,” I repeat, as if I need to convince them. “I felt her hand… she moved.”

The nurse looks at me attentively, but not with the emotion I expect.

“Sir, please stay calm…”

“No, no, no,” I shake my head. “It’s not that… it wasn’t… it wasn’t anything small, it was real. I felt it.”

Another nurse approaches.

“We need you to leave the room, we’re going to check on you.”

I nod immediately.

“Yes, of course, but…” I swallow. “She’s going to wake up, right?”

They don’t answer.

That makes me a little uneasy, but I don’t let that feeling grow.

Not now.

I leave the room as instructed, but I don’t walk away, I can’t.

I stand right outside, pacing, my hands on my head, trying to process what just happened.

She moved, I know it, I felt it.

It wasn’t my imagination, it can’t be.

My chest fills with something that grows, that pushes, that makes me breathe differently.

“She’s going to wake up…” I murmur to myself. “She’s going to wake up.”

The door remains closed, the seconds feel like an eternity.

My eyes are glued to it. Until finally… It opens.

The doctor comes out, and I react immediately.

“Doctor.”

I walk straight toward him.

“Did you see it?” I ask bluntly. “Did you feel it? She moved.”

My voice is heavy with expectation, anxiety, a desperate need for confirmation.

“She moved, didn’t she? That means she’s going to wake up.”

The doctor looks at too seriously. And that gesture… That damned gesture…

e seriously

It starts to extinguish something inside me.

“Sir…” he says in a professional tone. “It’s possible that what you perceived were reflex

movements.”

I frown.

“Reflexes?”

“Yes. In patients with this type of trauma, the body can exhibit involuntary responses.”

I deny it immediately.

“No…” I say, more quietly this time. “It wasn’t that.”

I stare at him.

“I felt it.”

My voice trembles.

“It was her.”

The doctor remains calm.

“I understand you want to interpret it that way…”

“It’s not that I want to,” I interrupt. “It just happened.”

Silence… His expression doesn’t change.

“It’s still too early to determine a conscious neurological response,” he continues. “We need to

wait.”

Again… Wait. That word hits me like a blow.

“But…” I swallow. “Could she wake up?”

The doctor doesn’t answer immediately, and that brief silence… feels like an eternity.

“There’s a possibility,” he say “2”

My chest rises and falls sharply.

we can’t be sure yet.”
