Chapter 340: A First Approach, Part 2.

Vanessa

I didn’t leave… Not really.

+25 Points:

I left the hospital, yes. I walked through the doors, breathed in the fresh air, walked a few meters as if everything were under control… But I didn’t leave.

I stayed close, because something inside me wasn’t satisfied.

Not with having seen him, not with having confirmed that he was still there… Not with knowing that everything was still silent.

I needed more, much more.

I leaned my back against an outside wall, away from the main entrance. ! took out my phone, pretended to check something, like anyone waiting.

But my mind… My mind was working, searching, calculating.

“Going in through reception won’t work…”

I murmured…

Too much control, too many questions, too much visibility.

I need another way, so I look around… Staff coming and going, nurses, orderlies… Visitors. And then I see it … A side door.

Not so closely watched, not so busy. A restroom.

I barely smile.

“Perfect…”

I walk there unhurriedly, as if I know exactly where I’m going

As if I belong here, it always works. Safety isn’t about hiding… It’s about not looking out of place.

A nurse comes out at that moment, pushing an empty gurney.

I take advantage of the opportunity, I go right in behind her without looking, without stopping, without hesitating. And I’m inside.

Again.

The corridor is narrower here, quieter.

I take off my glasses for a second and put them away, I breathe.

“Good…”

I start walking slowly, observing doors, numbers, signs, rooms.

Some closed, others with family members, others empty.

There’s no clear pattern, no name, nothing that says “Clara.”

I press my lips together.

“Where are you…?”

I keep walking, I turn into another corridor… Then another. Nothing.

Not a sign, not a clue, not a hint.

Frustration… that’s what I feel starting to rise through my body.

“It can’t be…”

If she’s in intensive care… There’s no way, I couldn’t get in. Not without raising suspicion.

I stop, think, breathe.

“Calm down…”

But then… I see her, at the end of the hall.

Her mother.

I recognize her immediately, even though I haven’t seen her many times. The way she walks, her posture.

Her expression… the woman has a cup of coffee in her hand, she walks slowly, tired.

I watch her and something inside me stirs.

“There you are…”

I start to move carefully, keeping my distance, without making a sound, without drawing attention.

I follow her, step by step. She doesn’t look back, she doesn’t suspect anything, she just keeps walking

She turns into another hall, I follow her.

My pulse quickens, but it’s not nervousness. It’s precision, certainty.

“Take me to her…”

I murmur in my mind, and then… She stops in front of a room. But… She doesn’t go in.

She just stands there, silently looking inside, observing.

That tells me everything.

My breathing slows, becomes more controlled.

“She’s in there…”

Clara’s mother sighs, lowers her gaze. She clutches the mug in her hands, and then… She turns around, leaves, without going in, without saying anything… Without staying.

I’ve already hidden before she turns, behind a wall, even holding back the sound of my breathing.

thear her walk away, step by step, until she disappears.

I wait a few more seconds for safety, out of habit. And then… I slowly slip out.
