Beatrice immediately chimed in. "I agree with the divorce, but if Riley thinks she's getting a cut of the assets, she can forget it. It has to be according to the previous agreement. She gets absolutely nothing."
Remembering Sebastian's parting words, Pierce frowned and turned to her. "What exactly did you do today?"
Beatrice felt that although her confrontation with Riley hadn't gone as planned, she had still acted in the family's best interest. With a hint of pride, she recounted the day's events.
Pierce hadn't slept for a day and a night. He was physically and mentally drained. Hearing her words, the anger he had been suppressing exploded. He raised his voice in a furious roar. "Do you think my reputation isn't ruined enough? Are you trying to add a headline about me forcibly snatching my daughter away?"
Beatrice was momentarily stunned by her son's outburst before she responded, deeply offended, "I was trying to help you! I didn't want Riley stringing you along!"
"You were destroying me!" Uncontrollable rage twisted Pierce's features. "Riley is my wife, and Alora is my daughter! How could you treat them like that?"
Flashes of Beatrice's past disdain for Riley crossed his mind, and Pierce spoke without thinking, "If you hadn't constantly looked down on Riley and despised her for having a daughter, would she have ever left me?"
Beatrice stared at him in utter disbelief. She had given her heart and soul for her son, and now he was shifting all the blame onto her.
She had birthed him, raised him, and put him above all else.
And in the end, he claimed she was destroying him.
Grievance, fury, and heartbreak...
A torrent of emotions slammed into her chest.
Tears spilled from her eyes without warning.
Crying, Beatrice pointed at herself. "You're blaming me? You are actually blaming me right now? What a wonderful son I have."
