"But he finally agreed to the divorce. Whether he has an ulterior motive or not, I have to go meet him."

"Yeah, don't worry. I'll be right there with you."

"Thanks. Oh, by the way, I got promoted to Chief Physician. Come over for dinner tonight so we can celebrate."

"Congratulations! That's amazing. Plus, I've been missing Alora."

They chatted for a bit longer before Quinn headed upstairs to wrap up some work and print out the divorce agreement. Afterward, they left the firm together.

They arrived at the coffee shop and waited briefly before Pierce walked in with his lawyer.

Pierce had dark circles under his eyes, which were completely bloodshot. He looked utterly exhausted. It seemed the online scandal over the past two days had hit him hard, but none of that was her concern anymore.

Riley withdrew her gaze and pushed the divorce agreement in front of him. "Sign it."

Pierce stared at her unblinking. She looked perfectly calm, without a shred of reluctance. The very first thing she said was to ask him to sign. She truly had no lingering feelings for him whatsoever. A bitter smile tugged at his lips. "I thought we were going to grow old together. I never imagined it would come to this."

Riley felt no anger, no resentment, and no need to mock him. She simply stated evenly, "I didn't either."

A glimmer of hope surfaced in Pierce's eyes. "Riley..."

"Don't misunderstand," Riley cut him off. "I meant that when we got married, I never thought I'd be divorcing you. But right now, a divorce is the only thing I want."
