But for some reason, she simply adored this girl.
Winona beamed. "What a coincidence! I like you a lot, too."
Completely ignored until now, Pierce spoke up in a gentle tone, "Ms. Spencer, I'm here to take care of Riley. You've been treated like royalty your entire life; I doubt you've ever had to take care of someone before."
Winona turned to glare at Pierce, her tone sharp. "As long as Riley agrees, that's all that matters. Don't speak to me."
Pierce's expression stiffened, but he forced a polite smile. "I think you misunderstand, Ms. Spencer. I wasn't questioning your capabilities, it's just..."
"I told you not to speak to me," Winona interrupted impatiently. "I don't like talking to scumbags."
The smile froze on Pierce's face. No one had ever dared speak to him like that, let alone humiliate him so bluntly. But she was the beloved princess of the Spencer family, and he couldn't afford to offend them.
Swallowing his furious pride, he looked at Riley. "You two talk. I need to take a call." With that, he turned and left the room.
Riley looked at Winona. "You shouldn't have spoken to him like that."
"Don't tell me you still feel sorry for him?"
Riley shook her head. "No. I just don't want you making enemies because of me."
Winona fed her another piece of fruit. "I didn't do it because of you. That's just how I am. If I like someone, I like them. If I don't, I don't. I just speak my mind."
Riley genuinely admired Winona's straightforward personality, but not everyone had the privilege of saying whatever they wanted without consequences.
Just like earlier—if anyone else had offended Pierce Landon, they would have paid dearly for it.
