Riley didn't quite process his words at first. "Come downstairs for what?"
"I'm downstairs."
Riley immediately sat up straight. It was past ten o'clock at night. To come looking for her so late, could it be a massive emergency? "I'll be right down."
"Mhm."
Riley hung up, hurried out the door, and stepped into the elevator. It wasn't until she was halfway down that she realized she was still in her nightgown. She looked down to assess her outfit.
The dress reached her calves, featuring a square neckline and puff sleeves. It was a very simple, modest style. It shouldn't be too inappropriate.
Riley walked out of the apartment building and immediately spotted Sebastian leaning against his car a short distance away, smoking. Dressed in a smoke-gray shirt and black trousers, his posture was tall and commanding. The cherry of his cigarette glowed faintly in the dark. Just standing there casually, he was a breathtaking sight.
Catching sight of her, he stubbed out his cigarette and walked toward her beneath the moonlight.
Ever since learning from Franklin about everything Sebastian had done for her, seeing him again stirred an unfamiliar, panicked flutter in her chest. She stood frozen in place, only snapping back to reality when the tall, imposing man stopped right in front of her.
She managed a stiff, nervous smile. "Sebastian."
Sebastian's dark eyes swept over Riley. He was used to seeing her in casual clothes; this was the first time he had seen her in a dress. Beneath her luminous, jade-like neck rested her delicate collarbones, looking like the graceful wings of a butterfly pausing before flight, utterly captivating in the moonlight.
His gaze drifted lower to her slender, straight calves and fair ankles. Her toes were perfectly shaped and neatly aligned, gleaming softly like a string of precious pearls.
Noticing Sebastian's assessing gaze, Riley, already flustered, instantly tensed up. She awkwardly tried to explain, "I was just getting ready for bed. I thought it was an emergency, so I rushed down and forgot to change."
Suppressing the tidal wave of emotions churning within him, Sebastian looked at her calmly. "I'm the one intruding."
Riley clasped her hands nervously in front of her and shook her head. "You're not intruding. Was there something you needed me for?"
