Riley frowned. What did he want now? Hadn't they caused enough of a scene yesterday?
Pierce walked up to her. "Riley, I want to treat you to lunch today to formally apologize for what happened last night." He held out the flowers.
Riley didn't take them. Her face was blank as she stated flatly, "I have plans for lunch with my colleagues."
Pierce turned to the colleagues standing next to her, his tone polite and smooth. "Do you mind if I borrow her for a while?"
How could they refuse the CEO of Landon Enterprises?
Besides, Riley and Pierce used to be married. Everyone had seen the news about him rushing to Statenbury to take care of her when she was injured. Judging by his behavior now, it was obvious he still had feelings for her. Maybe the online rumors about them getting back together were true.
They felt awkward intruding on the couple.
They all smiled and nodded, saying goodbye to Riley before leaving.
Riley opened her mouth to stop them, but they didn't give her a chance to speak. She scowled at Pierce, her voice sharp. "What exactly do you want?"
Seeing she wasn't going to take the flowers, Pierce stepped closer and shoved them into her arms, looking at her with a smile. "Are you sure you want to talk here?"
It was peak lunch hour, and people were constantly walking by. Arguing with him here was indeed a bad idea; someone might film them again and post it online.
She decided to use this opportunity to make everything crystal clear and stop his constant harassment.
Thinking this, Riley got into his car.
Pierce started the engine and drove toward the hospital's main gate.
Once they were a short distance away, Riley turned to him and cut straight to the chase. "Pierce, if you have any thoughts of getting back together, I'll tell you right now: I don't go backward."
Pierce's grip on the steering wheel tightened. He glanced at her. "I know you're still angry. Let's not talk about that right now. What do you want to eat? Chinese or Western?"
