Hearing this, Pierce withdrew his gaze and looked softly at the woman in Sebastian's arms. "Riley."
Still reeling from the horrific ordeal, Riley was running purely on psychological instinct. The sudden arrival of Sebastian had anchored her survival to him. At the sound of the outside voice, she subconsciously shrank deeper into Sebastian's embrace.
Feeling the woman tuck herself closer, Sebastian paused, a flash of profound emotion crossing his eyes at being so desperately needed.
"Mr. Landon?" Franklin prompted.
Pierce hadn't expected Riley to react like that. Disappointment clouded his eyes as he stepped aside.
Sebastian carried Riley with long, steady strides toward his waiting car.
Franklin jogged ahead to open the rear door.
Sebastian settled into the backseat, keeping Riley securely in his arms.
Franklin started the engine and drove off.
Inside the car, Riley's mind began to piece itself back together. She suddenly realized she was sitting directly on Sebastian's lap, her arms wrapped tightly around his waist, her head resting against his chest.
Her cheek was pressed against his firm muscles. The sound of his steady, powerful heartbeat echoed in her ear, and her palms were flat against his lean, athletic torso. Every sensation screamed the same undeniable fact: Sebastian was completely shirtless!
Heat exploded across her face, turning her cheeks crimson.
The memory of him pulling off his shirt to cover her rushed into her mind.
So his clothes...
She glanced down and saw the expensive fabric of his black dress shirt swallowed around her frame.
She couldn't give it back. Her own clothes had been ripped to shreds by that animal; there was no way she could be seen like this.
But if she pushed him away, she would have to confront the sheer awkwardness of their situation. He was half-naked, and she looked like a total wreck. Just the thought of it made her want to crawl into a hole and die.
But if she didn't push him away...
