Riley's mind was in total chaos. To make matters worse, Pierce was right outside the door. Her ex-husband, and the man she had called his brother—the sheer complexity of it was scrambling her brain. "I'm just really confused right now."
She hadn't fought him off, but she hadn't rejected him either.
Sebastian was quite satisfied with this outcome. "There's no rush. Think it over. I'll wait for your answer." With that, he stood up, walked to the door, and opened it to find Franklin blocking Pierce from entering.
Seeing Sebastian, Franklin dropped his arm.
Pierce glared at Franklin with a dark scowl before turning to Sebastian. "Sebastian, what is the meaning of this?"
Sebastian looked calmly at Franklin. "Who told you to stop him?"
"It was my own call, sir. I didn't want him disturbing Riley's rest."
"Don't let it happen again."
Franklin lowered his head. "Yes, sir."
Sebastian shifted his gaze back to Pierce. "Is everything handled over there?"
First he had hoarded Riley in his arms, and now he was pulling this gatekeeping stunt at her door.
Pierce had fully intended to confront Sebastian, but Sebastian's sudden shift in attitude threw him off. He blinked in surprise before gathering his thoughts. "Both of them are permanently ruined down there. They passed out. We have to wait for them to wake up before we can interrogate them."
Sebastian nodded. "I'll leave it to you, then. I have other business to attend to."
"Alright."
Sebastian walked away.
Watching his boss leave so decisively, Franklin shot a frantic look toward the hospital room before hurrying to catch up. "You're just going to hand her over to Mr. Landon like that?" he whispered.
His tone reeked of frustration and disappointment.
