The atmosphere in the room grew incredibly tense.
Hogan quickly interjected, “Mr. Austin, Rebecca truly suffered in the past. My daughter grew up away from us, and I failed to educate her properly. But I promise I will make it up to Rebecca from now on. Please, give us a chance.”
Katherine, hearing her father praise Rebecca while belittling her, turned her head away in a huff.
Dylan remained silent for a moment before saying slowly, “Fine. I can give you a chance.”
Hogan nodded eagerly. “Thank you, Mr. Austin! Thank you!”
He breathed a silent sigh of relief, grateful that Dylan was still willing to give him a chance.
Dylan pointed at the bottle of wine in front of him. “Start by drinking that bottle. Show me your sincerity.”
“What?” Hogan stammered. “The… the whole bottle?”
Dylan raised an eyebrow. “What else?”
Hogan immediately forced a smile and nodded. “Of course, Mr. Austin. As long as you’re willing to give me a chance, I’ll drink it. I’ll drink however many you want. I’ll show you my sincerity.”
With that, Hogan picked up the bottle, poured a full glass, and raised it. “To you, Mr. Austin.”
But Dylan didn’t move. Hogan’s smile twitched, and he had no choice but to down the entire glass himself.
The alcohol burned its way down his throat, making him cough, but he forced himself to endure it, pouring and drinking one glass after another.
By the time Hogan finished the bottle, his face was flushed, and his eyes were glazed over. “Mr. Austin, I’m… I’m done.”
His voice was hoarse, and he swayed as he stood.
Jane watched her husband down an entire bottle of wine just to please Dylan, and she frowned with concern.
Just as she thought it was over, Dylan spoke again. “What about the two of you?”
Jane was stunned. “Do I have to drink too?”
