Sunday.
In the morning, Ronan informed Cordelia that he was heading out to check the launch of a project.
"Okay." This was the first time he had voluntarily shared his itinerary with Cordelia.
By noon, the servants were out to buy groceries, and Deanna showed up. Cordelia frowned slightly, becoming wary.
"He's out inspecting a project launch today," Cordelia explained to Deanna, knowing she was here to see Ronan.
"Is that so? I'll give him a call later then."
"Didn't you let him know beforehand?" Cordelia tried to remain polite, starting to entertain Deanna in the living room.
"Where's Barney? I'll go say hi," Deanna said. "Doesn't Barney usually take a rest after lunch?"
Cordelia wondered what Deanna was up to, looking for Barney. She followed her.
In Deanna's hand was a special Betaloc pill, triple the dose of regular ones.
After that, Deanna went to Barney’s room. He was searching for a book on the shelf, wearing reading glasses.
"Hello, Barney," Deanna said. "Good afternoon."
Barney turned around, saw Deanna, and said, "You're here? Go hang out with Cordelia outside, Ronan’s out.”
“Okay, I’ll just say hi and then I’ll go.”
“Great, I’m looking for a book on international business law and can't seem to find it..." Barney muttered to himself, continuing his search.
While Barney was distracted, Deanna swiftly put the pill into his medicine bottle.
Cordelia walked in, saying to Deanna, "Come on. Don't disturb Barney."
Deanna was dissatisfied. Why was she considered as disturbing Barney?
"Since Ronan's not here, I'm gonna head out. I'll call him on the way.” Deanna said after walking into the living room, with an attitude that implied she only wished to speak with Ronan, and not anyone else.
Jamie was worried that Adrian would try to set him up with Cordelia again, causing her trouble. Moreover, with Barney sick, Ronan would definitely be upset. Jamie wasn’t sure how Ronan would react if Adrian did anything at this time. Little did he know, the Adrian beside him had already betrayed him.
“Am I that kind of person?” Adrian retorted.
“Listen, no funny business, got it?” Jamie said seriously.
“Got it!”
Cordelia was out on the street trying to hail a cab with Barney, but today was unusually quiet, and no cars were in sight.
Deanna's car was parked in the distance. She had placed the pill right at the top of the bottle. As expected, Barney had taken it. She had also had her friend who worked at the telecom company cut off Cordelia's phone line, and she was keeping tabs on Ronan's route. As for cabs, she had hired a bunch of people to intercept any that passed by.
She thought, once Barney was gone, Cordelia and Ronan's marriage would end too. What was more, with no one home, she would be able to frame Cordelia one more time.
Cordelia felt incredibly helpless at the moment, like the world was ending. Thinking of Barney's kindness, she teared up. "Grandpa, hang in there, we'll be at the hospital soon."
Deanna, in the distance, had a smug grin on her face!
