By chance, Cordelia's eyes landed on Shelley's memorial picture hanging in the living room.
Her eyes started to well up.
But she didn’t let herself wallow in sadness for too long.
She knew Shelley's death had something to do with Ronan, and she didn't want him to see her so devastated.
By evening, Ronan asked her, "What do you feel like eating?"
"Anything." Cordelia was sitting by the window.
Once Ronan went into the kitchen, she started texting Jamie, asking about Kendra's parents. She specifically told Jamie to reply in text, not voice messages.
Jamie replied: [Finally, you texted back. You scared the hell out of me.]
Cordelia: [I'm fine.]
Jamie: [Kendra has known Thomas for a long time, but Thomas never said who she really is. She's always been mysterious. My dad intentionally kept her low-profile. These years, Thomas didn't pay much attention to her. Kendra was out of town for a few years. She came back to Millstone broke, tried to blackmail some money out of Thomas, but he didn't give her any.]
Cordelia: [Is the house in Sunridge Estates hers?]
Jamie: [Don't know.]
Cordelia guessed that Kendra might be Shayla's daughter. The last time Olen kept calling Shelley “Shayla”, might have to do with Kendra calling Shelley “mom”.
Ronan went to find Olen the day he disappeared. They might have been in that house. Shelley definitely didn’t just fall to her death; someone must have killed her. It was either Ronan or Olen!
Olen wanted revenge on Shayla. After all, Shayla was the one who turned him into this.
Sadly, Cordelia had fainted at that time and didn’t get to see what happened.
That neighborhood had been abandoned years ago, with no surveillance and very few residents.
Plus, with Ronan’s power and influence, it was easy for him to pull some strings at the police station. So, going to the police station would be fruitless.
"Dinner's ready. Come eat." Ronan told Cordelia.
"Mhm." Cordelia deleted all her chat history with Jamie.
"Make do with it." He said.
This was the first time Cordelia had eaten something Ronan made.
She totally lost her appetite.
"Don't like it?" He asked.
All those sweet memories and times she was heartbroken for him, all came rushing back.
"What did Shelley do to you? She always warned me not to trouble you, or ask for money from you. She also didn't let Adrian ask for money from you. Was it because she got in the way of your affairs?" Cordelia yelled at Ronan in anger.
Ronan didn't respond, just kept eating his food.
"Ronan, Shelley is my mother. The mother I waited six years to come back to her senses. I'm not like you, who are cold to your parents. Of course, your coldness is just superficial, who wouldn’t care for their parents!" Cordelia suddenly laughed bitterly. Just now Ronan said he killed her own mother for Olen. That was clear evidence. Just like before, he verbally despised Olen's weakness, but still took all the responsibility.
She should feel lucky. She married such a responsible man!
"I tried hard to improve your relationship with Olen and Amanda, but what did you do to my family?" Cordelia's eyes turned red. She slammed her knife and fork on the table, then stormed into the bedroom.
After she locked the bedroom door, she couldn’t hear anything from outside.
In a short while, the door was kicked open by Ronan with a loud "bang".
Cordelia didn't open her eyes. She regretted it now.
How she wished she never knew Ronan, or never had anything to do with him!
No matter how warm his embrace was, Cordelia didn't want any more entanglements.
