The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 223

Cordelia paused, napkin halfway to her mouth. "Mr. Grant?"

"Hello. Heard you've been studying abroad, how was it? You're back?" Grant appraised Cordelia from head to toe.

Cordelia thought desperately, “Damn, just got back and already ran into someone who knows Ronan, now what?” She could only hope that Grant would leave soon to attend his social engagements, get drunk, and forget he ever saw her.

Ronan rarely came out at night, so she wasn't worried about bumping into him.

"Yeah, it was good. I'm back for exams. A friend wanted to grab dinner.” Cordelia finished speaking, and then a wave of nausea washed over her, and she began to vomit again.

Grant felt awkward lingering, so he said, "Well, Mrs. Evans, I have other commitments. I'll be off."

Cordelia nodded.

When Grant got back to their private room, he sat next to Ronan. "Did Mrs. Evans return? I just saw her," he asked Ronan.

Ronan was silent for a moment. "Yes, she's back, having dinner with her friend."

"Mr. Evans, you move fast. Couldn't get her pregnant while in the country, but you managed to do it abroad? How often are you flying to the States?"

"How do you know she's pregnant?" Ronan's smile didn't reach his eyes, which were icy cold.

"It's obvious, she's showing signs of morning sickness. She was throwing up. But it doesn't look like she's showing yet."

"Right," Ronan said, keeping his face expressionless.

She was back!

She was back, and she was carrying another man's child.

She left four months ago. If the baby was his, she would be showing by now. Besides, she had taken a contraceptive pill in front of him. The chances of him being the father were next to none.

Jamie was also in the States. If Grant hadn't bumped into her tonight, she probably would have continued playing dead.

...

Cordelia went back to her seat and said to Brooklyn, "I'm done eating. Let's go."

"Are you feeling better?" Brooklyn asked. "Which restroom did you go to? I couldn't catch up with you."

"Oh, it's the one on the left. Let's go, I want to get some sleep and study. I have an exam tomorrow."

"Alright."

After Edwin dropped Cordelia back at her hotel, he took Brooklyn home.

When Brooklyn's phone rang, she nearly dropped it in her haste. "What's the matter? Answer it." Edwin watched as Brooklyn shivered beside him. "You see a ghost or something?"

"It's like the Grim Reaper is calling me. He says die at midnight, and I won't live till dawn," Brooklyn said.

She took a deep breath to calm herself, and answered the phone, trying to sound composed, "Mr. Evans, you wanted to see me?"

He was now even more certain that the child wasn't his. If it was, she wouldn't have waited this long to take a pregnancy test!

"Mr. Evans, if men could get pregnant, I reckon you'd be carrying your fourth or fifth child by now. Don't chastise others when you yourself aren't in the clear," Cordelia retorted.

When she had suggested a divorce before, he had refused and let her leave. This meant he had accepted they would lead separate lives. She had planned to live separately for three or four years, and then get a divorce.

Ronan took two steps forward, grabbed Cordelia's wrists, and pinned her against the wall.

"Who is it?" he demanded through gritted teeth.

Cordelia didn't answer; she just turned her head away.

Ronan's gaze fell on Cordelia's wrist, where a large rabbit bracelet caught his attention. It could only mean that it was from the man she was seeing or was a gift from him. "Do you take my words as wind passing by?" he asked through clenched teeth.

"Why did you give me sleeping pills after my mother died? Mr. Evans, you've done no good, so stop demanding it from others!" Cordelia shot back. "Let's divorce!"

A while later, Cordelia turned to look at him, her gaze cold.

"You bring back another man's child, and you want to talk about divorce?" Ronan was livid, "I'll grant you your wish!"

He shoved Cordelia onto the bed and began to unbuckle his belt.

Cordelia knew what he was about to do. It wasn't the first time. She knew she couldn't change anything, so she calmly took a condom from the bedside table.

Ronan saw it, his face turned green, but he didn't stop unbuckling his belt.
