The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 287

Wyatt's office.

Emerson and Wyatt were engaged in a heated argument. Emerson was speaking rapidly in a high volume, as though he intended for Wyatt not to understand. Wyatt, on the other hand, was also speaking heatedly. Seeing Emerson arguing with him stubbornly only made him angrier. For a moment, Wyatt's office was filled with the cacophony of English and German. Ronan was just standing there, watching the spectacle.

Cordelia had just finished her yoga session and changed into her normal clothes. Hearing the ruckus from Wyatt's office, she looked in that direction.

The door to Wyatt's office was not closed, and as she was buttoning her shirt, she saw Ronan with his back to her, lighting up a cigarette and looking at her. His gaze was filled with mischief, curiosity and intense interest in Cordelia. Their eyes met, and it was a moment of intense connection. Cordelia, who was determined to study abroad, was almost drawn back by that look.

Just as Cordelia was enjoying the drama, there was a sudden loud bang, and Emerson stormed out of Wyatt's office. "Madman!" Emerson cursed.

This curse was completely unbecoming of a doctoral student.

Ronan was still doing damage control for Wyatt.

As Emerson passed Cordelia, he didn't say anything at first, but then he turned back. "Cordelia, could you help out the Audit Department temporarily? Can you audit the work of the Finance Department for me? You've worked in both departments and you're the most suitable person. I've seen your innovative accounting methods. They're very creative." Emerson said, staring at Cordelia.

"Me?" Cordelia pointed at herself in surprise.

"Yes. You." Emerson said.

"I probably can't. I'm about to give birth, and in January I'll be going abroad to do my master's." Cordelia really couldn't help with this.

Ronan exited Wyatt's office. "What happened?" He easked the two who were still talking.

"I wanted your wife to help me audit the work of the Finance Department, but she refused." Emerson's anger had subsided. His anger was never aimed at Cordelia, and considering that Cordelia was pregnant and belonged to Ronan, he had to be gentle.

Ronan looked at Cordelia for a few moments before saying to Emerson, "Find another way."

"Where am I supposed to find someone?" Emerson spread his hands, "Why did you bring up all these projects?"

"Well, you got to think of way to finish them." Ronan said, and walked away.

"I know you're worried about Cordelia, and you don't want her to overwork." Emerson said.

"She's six months pregnant, don't you know?" Ronan asked Emerson angrily.

Upon hearing Ronan's heartfelt words, Cordelia felt a warmth in her heart. At every moment, he was pulling her back from the edge of hatred.

"Yes, the Audit Department is very busy this year and doesn't have time to audit the Finance Department, so Emerson got upset." Ronan replied.

Cordelia nodded thoughtfully, "Is the Audit Department really that busy?"

"Yes. It's getting busier and busier, and it's hard to recruit people." Ronan said.

"You." Cordelia pondered for a moment, "You're not putting on a show for me, are you?"

"A show?" Ronan didn't understand at first, but after a moment, he seemed to laugh coldly, "Cordelia, do you really think you're that important?"

"I..." Cordelia blushed with embarrassment. She thought that Ronan was just putting on a show to tell her that Lumos Enterprises was so busy that two important departments were fighting, and they were in desperate need of people, so she should stay at Lumos Enterprises and not go abroad.

"Do you even realize how stupid this method is?" Ronan asked her.

Cordelia regretted her words. Even if he wanted to keep her, there were countless other ways, and he didn't have to damage the reputation of two of his most important generals. Stealing so many projects from Jamie was indeed for her, but deliberately making Emerson and Wyatt argue was definitely not Ronan's style. If it was really him, wouldn't he be finding trouble for himself just to make her happy? Ronan was too clever to do such a thing.

Cordelia was indeed overthinking.
