The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 362

In a corner of the airport, a man in a dark suit watched Cordelia intently. He saw her pass through customs and saw the flight status on the big screen declare her flight had taken off, but Cordelia never came out again. He was certain she had flown away.

He dialed a number on his phone, reaching out to a mysterious contact. "Boss, Cordelia's left the country! Do we make our move over there?"

"No need. The cruelest thing in the world isn't death, but life. I want her to live and feel the pain of resentment and separation!" The person at the other end of the line declared.

The subordinate didn't quite understand, but he asked, "So, how do we proceed?"

"Keep a close watch! And find someone for Ronan."

The man in the dark suit furrowed his brows slightly. "Find someone? Who?"

"Someone who fits Ronan's taste, like Cordelia."

"Got it!"

After ending the call, the man in the dark suit lingered in the airport for a while longer, ensuring Cordelia wouldn't reappear. Then, he left.

...

When Amanda left the airport, she called Ronan. At the same time, Ronan was in his office chatting with Emerson.

"How's Cordelia doing lately?"

"She's been keen on studying abroad in the U.S., but I won't let her." Ronan was in a sour mood, having just argued with Cordelia the night before.

"Well, it isn't a bad thing that she want to pursue further education. With the intense competition these days, her ambition should be encouraged. Why not let her go?" Emerson suggested.

"Are you here to plead her case?"

"Not exactly, but during the holidays, when I visited your home, Cordelia asked me about my education. I could tell there was a fire inside her, a fire that wouldn't be extinguished. So, if she wants to go, let her. If you keep holding her back, she'll rebel,” Emerson advised.

Ronan knew this, but he couldn't let go. He was afraid that once she had a taste of freedom, she'd never want to come back. Plus, he figured Marian had likely stirred up Cordelia's insecurities about her education again, prompting her sudden desire to go abroad.

As Emerson was about to leave, Ronan's phone rang.

"When?"

Hearing Ronan's tone, Emerson paused, hand on the door handle. He turned to look at him. Ronan had already hung up the phone and stood up. "What's up?" Emerson asked, serious.

Ronan pulled out his phone, wanting to call her, but he knew it was in vain. She was already in the air. Ronan sank into the couch, lighting up a cigarette. He could easily go to the U.S. and drag her back, but it wasn't necessary.

"Janice..." he called from upstairs several times.

Janice hurried up the stairs. "What is it, Mr. Evans?"

"Burn everything that Cordelia left behind. And from now on, her name is never to be mentioned in this house," Ronan stated coldly.

Janice was taken aback. She wanted to ask what had happened, and why he was so angry. Didn't Cordelia say she was going abroad, and that she had discussed it with Mr. Evans?

"Do I need to repeat myself?" Ronan asked, seeing Janice frozen in place.

"Oh, no, I'll do it right away." Janice turned and went to Cordelia's closet, gathering all of Cordelia's clothes. She found several outfits Ronan had bought for Cordelia and hesitated for a long moment.

"Mr. Evans, are these clothes to be discarded as well?" Janice asked Ronan.

Without even looking up, Ronan replied, "If it's hers, I don't want it."

Janice thought it was a shame to burn such fine clothes, but Ronan's command was not to be disobeyed. She took the clothes to the backyard and set them aflame.
