The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 441

As Ronan stepped out of Dustin's house, his phone buzzed with a new message from Cordelia. [How do you know Harold?]

Ronan didn't respond.

Cordelia figured as much. He rarely checked his messages, if at all. His silence made Cordelia feel uneasy.

Walking through the campus of Birchwood College with his son, Callum, Ronan relished the cool, refreshing atmosphere. It had been a while since he felt this kind of serenity. The last time he experienced it was when he visited Birchwood College with a certain someone.

"Dad, you said earlier that that nice lady is your wife. Does that mean you've fallen for her?" Callum asked Ronan.

"Yes."

"I knew it, Dad. You're so calm and collected, but your heart knows what it wants. If you've fallen for her, you should act on it quickly. And you should let Haorld know, too," Callum said excitedly. "He's so innocent. I'm really worried."

"Worried about what?" Ronan asked Callum.

"I'm worried he'll get hurt."

"Aren't you worried about your dad?"

"Dad, you can do anything," Callum said proudly.

Ronan chuckled.

The pair leisurely strolled back home.

Callum yawned. "Tired?" Ronan asked him.

"Mhm."

Bending down, Ronan scooped Callum into his arms.

Callum nestled comfortably in his father's arms and fell asleep.

"Cordelia, did Ronan visit the campus last night?" Petra asked, forcing nonchalance into her voice as if Ronan was just an old classmate.

Cordelia's hand twitched. "Um, probably. He came to watch the basketball game."

"Oh, but I saw him heading towards the Birch Garden last night."

Cordelia frowned. "Why would he go there? I wouldn't know. We're divorced; I don't keep up with his life anymore."

"Why don't you organize a small gathering, so we can have a meal together, after all, we're old friends," Petra suggested casually.

Only she knew the years of unrequited love hidden behind this 'casual' suggestion.

"Sure, why not, I'll ask him," Cordelia agreed, thinking they were old friends after all. Besides, Petra was married.

As Cordelia pondered over Ronan's visit to the Birch Garden, she thought, her grandfather once taught at Birchwood College, so Ronan probably had some good friends here. Maybe Ronan visited the garden to catch up with old friends.
