It took Adrian a while to reply to Cordelia's message on Messenger.
[Hey, who's this? My little sis? Which country are you back from?]
[Are you free tomorrow?]
[Sure, sure. If my little sister asks, how could I say no? Where should we meet?]
[I'm currently staying at Brooklyn's place. Let's meet at the corner near her house.]
[What about the fancy condo Ronan got you?]
[The condo is his. After the divorce, I was left with nothing.] Cordelia didn't dare tell Adrian the truth. She only said she was penniless, not mentioning the assets Ronan had split with her.
[Are you useless? Did you bear a child for him for nothing?]
Adrian didn't hold much hope for Cordelia after learning she was left with nothing. Apparently, he wouldn't get anything out of her either.
After messaging Adrian, Cordelia started scrolling through her old Facebook account on her old phone.
She found nothing on Ronan's Facebook page. She wanted to check on Callum but realized she had been blocked by him.
Three years ago, she had ignored his advice and went to the States, then to the UK, and never returned. He had every reason to block her.
Cordelia mustered some courage and sent him a message. [Can you unblock me?]
He didn't reply. Fair enough, he was the CEO of Lumos Enterprises. Why would he let just anyone view his Facebook?
Cordelia bravely sent him a friend request on Messenger from her new phone. In the verification info, she only wrote one word. [Cordelia.]
"Who?" Cordelia looked outside but didn't see anyone.
"Tabitha! She's trash! Damn it, she never gave me the time of day. Then she got pregnant with Ronan's kid, and she thinks she's all that. After all, she's the mistress of the town's wealthiest man. Everyone in Millstone knows that. How can I compete with him? I lost everything back then, and I'm even worse off now." Adrian said mockingly.
Hearing the words "pregnant with Ronan's kid," Cordelia's heart tightened, and her fists clenched. Everyone said the same thing. Even Tabitha was afraid that Cordelia would see her child. So, how could it be false?
"I bet she's waiting for Ronan to marry her. Shameless woman, how dare she compare herself to my sister?" Adrian said.
Perhaps comparing that woman to his sister made Adrian realize that his sister was indeed better. Or maybe it was the fact that he hadn't seen his sister in three years that made him feel a bit of familial affection.
"Is the child really Ronan's?"
"Is there any doubt? For a while, I tried to see her, but she wouldn't see me. Then she finally came out, with a baby in her arms. Do you think I would be happy to be a stepfather? I've given up on her." Adrian said, self-derisively.
